KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Credit Strategy & Portfolio Growth
∙Develop and implement the Bank’s Credit Strategy aligned with the Business Plan.
∙Drive growth of loan portfolio within approved risk appetite.
∙Recommend sector exposure limits and product pricing structures.
∙Monitor portfolio mix (SME, micro, consumer, group lending, etc.).
B. Credit Appraisal & Approval
∙Oversee credit appraisal processes and ensure adherence to Credit Policy.
∙Review and approve loan applications within delegated authority limits.
∙Present higher-value facilities to the Credit Committee.
∙Ensure proper documentation before disbursement.
C. Portfolio Quality & Risk Management
∙Monitor Portfolio at Risk (PAR), NPL ratios, and delinquency trends.
∙Ensure compliance with loan classification guidelines per BOT regulations.
∙Oversee provisioning calculations (IFRS 9 alignment where applicable).
∙Develop early warning systems for credit deterioration.
∙Conduct periodic portfolio stress testing.
D. Recovery & Collections
∙Supervise recovery team and ensure timely follow-up of overdue accounts.
∙Develop recovery strategies including restructuring where appropriate.
∙Initiate legal action where necessary in collaboration with Legal.
∙Monitor write-offs and recovery of written-off accounts.
E. Policy & Process Management
∙Develop and update Credit Policy and Procedures Manual.
∙Ensure proper segregation of duties between sales, appraisal, and approval.
∙Standardize credit documentation and collateral management processes.
∙Improve turnaround time (TAT) for loan processing.
F. Regulatory Compliance
∙Ensure compliance with:
oBank of Tanzania Prudential Guidelines
oMicrofinance Regulations
oAML/CFT requirements
∙Prepare and submit required regulatory credit reports.
∙Support internal and external audits.
G. Reporting & MIS
∙Prepare monthly credit performance reports for Management and Board.
∙Track:
oDisbursements
oPortfolio Outstanding
oPAR 30/60/90
oNPL ratio
oSector concentration
oRestructured loans
∙Work closely with Finance for provisioning and reconciliation.
H. Staff Supervision & Capacity Building
∙Train and mentor Credit Officers and Analysts.
∙Promote ethical lending practices.
∙Conduct periodic field visits for quality assurance.
