Within the Tech, Data, AI, Ventures (TDAV) organization, our work is guided by a shared vision: deploying the power of technology, data, AI and ventures to accelerate sustainable competitive advantage for New York Life's businesses. We build solutions that power how we serve policy owners, agents, advisors and employees while delivering measurable business outcomes.
Across technology, data, AI, cyber, product, digital experience, architecture and infrastructure, TDAV combines the scale and investment of an industry leader, access to leading-edge technologies and the opportunity to help shape how a world-class financial services company competes in the AI era - all backed by the stability and purpose of a mutual company built to last.
Business Overview
Enterprise Plan to Perform (EPP) is one of New York Life's strategic transformations, focused on reimagining how the enterprise plans, projects, understands, and manages financial performance. EPP spans Expense Management, Planning & Projections, Performance Management, Financial Modeling, NEXUS, and related enterprise capabilities, bringing together business-process reimagination, modern technology, data, analytics, automation, and AI.
Role Overview
The Corporate Vice President, NEXUS Technology provides senior technology leadership for a major domain within New York Life's Enterprise Plan to Perform (EPP) transformation. The initial assignment is NEXUS, the common cross-EPP experience and technology embodiment of EPP. The leader will own the end-to-end technology strategy and delivery of NEXUS, integrating capabilities from Performance, Planning & Projections, Expense, Financial Modeling, data, analytics, and AI into a coherent decision experience.
The role owns the end-to-end technology capability for the domain, spanning technology strategy, roadmap, applications, data and analytics requirements, AI and automation, architecture, integration, engineering, controls, production readiness, workforce and partner capacity, and measurable business outcomes. The leader works across Finance, business, Technology, Data, Architecture, Risk and Control functions, and strategic partners to translate future-state business intent into scalable enterprise capabilities.
This is broader than an application development or program management role. The leader is expected to combine business understanding, systems thinking, technology and engineering judgment, and transformation leadership; challenge current-state constraints; and ensure the domain evolves as a coherent capability that integrates effectively with the broader EPP ecosystem and NEXUS experience.
What You'll Do
Domain Technology Strategy & Ownership
• Own the end-to-end NEXUS technology strategy, roadmap, engineering, and delivery across application experience, orchestration, integration, analytics, AI, and agentic capabilities.
• Ensure NEXUS evolves beyond a dashboard or presentation layer into an intelligent decision-support experience that proactively surfaces insights, explains drivers, supports exploration and scenarios, and enables action.
• Lead NEXUS outcome teams spanning executive and practitioner experiences, conversational and agentic interaction, proactive insights, cross-domain workflows, and reusable experience capabilities.
• Integrate deterministic metrics and analytics with agentic retrieval, reasoning, explanation, and workflow orchestration using appropriate enterprise controls and traceability.
• Establish persona-aware experiences that provide appropriate depth and interaction for executives, Finance leaders, FP&A practitioners, and business users without fragmenting the underlying product.
• Own the technical integration of capabilities supplied by Expense, Planning & Projections, Performance Technology, Financial Modeling, and shared enterprise services.
Technology, AI & Engineering Leadership
• Own the target-state technology strategy and roadmap for the domain, including application, integration, data, analytics, AI, automation, and engineering implications.
• Drive pragmatic use of rapid prototyping, specification-driven development, AI-assisted engineering, automated testing, and continuous business validation.
• Promote systems thinking so solution decisions account for upstream and downstream impacts across workflows, data, architecture, security, controls, and operations.
• Identify where generative AI and agentic capabilities can materially reimagine workflows, analysis, decision support, and execution rather than simply automate existing steps.
• Maintain strong standards for engineering quality, scalability, resiliency, responsible AI, observability, production readiness, and technical sustainability.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Interfaces
• Partner with Performance Technology, which owns the underlying Performance Management capability, data/analytics requirements, and performance technology outcomes; NEXUS owns how those capabilities are integrated into the common experience.
• Partner with each EPP Domain Technology Lead to integrate domain capabilities without duplicating domain ownership.
• Partner with Solution Engineering & Architecture on application, agent, integration, and reusable engineering patterns and with Data Architecture on semantics, data products, provenance, and deterministic versus agentic access patterns.
• Partner with Business Discovery & Solution Strategy leaders to translate future-state business intent into executable technology capabilities and roadmaps.
• Partner with Solution Engineering & Architecture and Data Architecture to ensure domain solutions align with cross-EPP architecture and data patterns.
• Lead multidisciplinary outcome teams and coordinate NYL engineers, forward deployed engineers, federated resources, domain SMEs, and strategic partner engineers.
• Build trusted relationships with senior Finance, business, and Technology stakeholders and create transparency around priorities, tradeoffs, risks, dependencies, and outcomes.
Investment, Workforce & Delivery Accountability
• Shape domain investment priorities, sequencing, resource requirements, and capacity plans based on business value, dependencies, risk, and delivery readiness.
• Manage strategic technology and engineering partners as an integrated part of the domain team with clear accountability for quality, outcomes, and knowledge transfer.
• Establish transparent measures of delivery health, adoption, quality, and value realization and use them to drive decisions and accountability.
• Ensure security, privacy, controls, auditability, and operational readiness are incorporated from inception through production.
Talent & Organizational Leadership
• Build, lead and develop high performing teams with strong domain knowledge and modern technology and engineering capabilities.
• Attract, develop and retain forward deployed and other high caliber technology talent, while building technology leadership and domain expertise across the organization.
• Establish clear accountability and a culture of collaboration, innovation, engineering discipline and continuous improvement.
• Lead effectively through both direct authority and matrixed relationships across Business, Product, Technology and partner teams.
What You'll Bring
Required Experience
• 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in technology, software engineering, solution delivery, digital transformation, or related disciplines, including significant leadership responsibility in complex enterprise environments.
• Proven experience owning end-to-end technology capabilities or major transformation domains from strategy through architecture, engineering, implementation, and measurable outcomes.
• Demonstrated success operating in federated or matrixed enterprises and influencing senior business and technology stakeholders across organizational boundaries.
• Broad technology and engineering background spanning modern application development, APIs and integration, data and analytics, cloud platforms, enterprise architecture, automation, and emerging technologies.
• Strong understanding of generative AI, agentic technologies, and AI-assisted engineering and their practical application to enterprise workflows and software delivery.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary technology teams and managing strategic partners, contractors, and federated resources.
• Experience operating within enterprise Risk, Security, Compliance, Audit, and control environments.
• Strong analytical, communication, prioritization, and executive-influence capabilities.
Required Skills
• Domain Technology Leadership - Owns the complete technology capability for a major business domain, not simply an application portfolio.
• Technology & Engineering Judgment - Evaluates solution approaches, architecture and data implications, engineering tradeoffs, and production risks.
• Systems Thinking - Understands interactions across process, applications, data, analytics, architecture, controls, and operating models.
• AI-Enabled Transformation - Identifies where AI and agentic capabilities can materially change workflows, decisions, and delivery economics.
• Executive Communication & Influence - Creates clarity, drives decisions, and influences senior stakeholders across organizational boundaries.
• Strategic Planning & Execution - Converts future-state ambition into prioritized roadmaps, investments, sequencing, and executable outcomes.
• Enterprise Delivery Discipline - Applies SDLC, Agile and Lean principles pragmatically with strong dependency, release, and production-readiness management.
• Talent & Partner Leadership - Builds strong teams and integrates internal, federated, and external engineering capacity around common outcomes.
• People Management - Develops and empowers talent through clear expectations, actionable feedback, effective coaching, and accountability, while fostering an inclusive, high-performing team environment.
Preferred Experience
• Experience leading complex digital products, enterprise decision-support platforms, analytics experiences, AI-enabled applications, or cross-domain technology products.
• Strong experience with agentic/conversational experiences, modern application architecture, APIs, orchestration, analytics, and AI-enabled user experiences.
• Experience designing products for multiple personas and integrating capabilities owned by multiple enterprise domains.
Why This Role
This MG3 role carries end-to-end accountability for an enduring EPP technology domain with enterprise business impact, multiple outcome teams, consequential architecture and investment decisions, and significant cross-organizational influence. The leader is expected to shape both what the future-state technology capability becomes and how it is delivered, while operating as a senior peer to other EPP domain and horizontal technology leaders.
