THE ORGANIZATION: Mi Familia Vota (MFV) and Mi Familia en Acción (MFA) are national Latino-led civic engagement organizations working year-round to strengthen democracy and empower our communities.
MFA, a 501(c)(3), focuses on nonpartisan programs such as citizenship, voter registration, voter education, and leadership development on key issues, including immigration, education, healthcare, voting rights, workers’ rights, reproductive rights, and the environment.
MFV, a 501(c)(4) organization, builds Latino political power through advocacy, organizing, and mobilization to ensure that Latino voices shape the policies that impact their health, safety, and prosperity.
Together, we operate one of the largest Latino civic engagement infrastructures in the country, with programs across eight states (Arizona, California, Nevada, Texas, Colorado, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida) and Washington, D.C.
Position Overview: The Civic Engagement Manager is responsible for developing a comprehensive, year-round voter engagement strategy aimed at increasing participation within the Latino community. This role requires expertise in outreach efforts, utilizing various methods such as door-to-door campaigns, phone calls, text messaging, and on-the-ground voter registration initiatives.
Reporting to the State Director, the Civic Engagement Manager oversees statewide voter engagement operations and collaborates with other departments to provide educational opportunities for the Latino community. This position involves managing and coaching team members, establishing strategic community partnerships, and implementing best practices to achieve the organization's voter engagement goals.
Additionally, the Civic Engagement Manager is tasked with creating state-level campaigns and coordinating work among field and program teams, demonstrating strong experience in leading programs, campaigns, and field operations.
Core NC MFV/MFA Programs: Fellowship Program Duties
- Youth Empowerment: Focus on engaging young individuals (ages 18-25) to take action on social and environmental justice issues by developing their knowledge and organizing skills.
- Voter Registration: Expand access to voting by providing on-the-ground voter education and registration support in a bilingual and culturally competent manner, ensuring that voters know how to register.
- Get Out the Vote: Ensure that all community members are represented by leaders who align with their values by informing voters about the elected offices on their ballot and how to cast their vote in every election cycle.
- Program Areas: Youth Leadership Development. Foster leadership skills among young individuals.
- Voter Registration: Facilitate voter registration and education.
- Get Out the Vote: Promote voter participation and awareness.
- These duties can be adapted to various fellowship programs focusing on community engagement and civic participation.
Job Responsibilities:
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with external partners to advance our work around civic engagement, site-based voter registration, and voter education.
- Represent the organization internally and externally; partner with organizations, media representatives, elected officials, and community members, speaking on behalf of the organization when necessary.
- Maintain a deep understanding of the rapidly evolving political and demographic landscape in the state.
- Identify, recruit, onboard, and manage high-quality staff to execute programs and campaigns.
- Provide training and support for on-the-ground field staff, including but not limited to organizers, canvas leads, and canvassers.
- Develop and maintain a robust and engaging curriculum focused on NC MFV core issues and facilitate events or workshops with bilingual audiences, primarily youth leaders.
- Use strong bilingual and multicultural messaging and communication skills for creating and developing scripts, media content, or training materials that align with the state's voter engagement strategy and issue priorities.
- Set and meet metrics for the organization's direct contact, such as door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, and text banking.
- Oversee the implementation of programs at the state at all stages of development (Design, Execution, Evaluation), and ensure program alignment with organizational mission and goals.
- Oversee data management process & collaborate with the National Data Department to ensure that program implementation metrics are being met.
- Create and maintain an environment of professionalism, ensuring fluid communication amongst staff and other departments.
- Facilitate efficient decision-making regarding the programs and campaigns under their responsibility.
Qualifications:
- Bilingual – Conversational in both English and Spanish
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; successful at motivating staff to meet recruitment and voter engagement goals
- Experience developing programmatic & staffing budgets
- Some level of experience with grant reporting related to projected goals, metrics, and impact
- At least two cycles of field/outreach experience, preferably at a Manager level
- Experience setting staff schedules, managing shifts, and training facilitation skills on safety, de-escalation, and training.
- Experience with and ability to train on VAN, EveryAction, and Scale to Win.
- Ability to design, maintain, and improve a goal-oriented accountability structure
- Strong cultural competence with communities of color and experience working with diverse groups
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to work flexible hours and weekends
- Access to reliable transportation
Skills Required
