The Trade Desk is a global technology company and the world’s leading independent platform for digital advertising, with nearly 4,000 employees across more than 30 offices. Our technology helps advertisers reach the right audiences across the open internet — from streaming TV and podcasts to mobile apps, news, and more.
Advertising powers the content people love. By making it more transparent, effective, and responsible, we help support trusted journalism, quality entertainment, and creators worldwide. The world’s brands and agencies rely on us to reach their customers and grow their businesses responsibly.
The scale of our platform brings unique technical challenges — from processing massive datasets in real time to building systems that operate reliably on a global scale. When you work here, your impact is worldwide. We welcome diverse perspectives, encourage curiosity, and build teams that learn from one another. If you’re driven to solve meaningful challenges, we’d love to meet you.

As a Business Development Director within our Global Agency Pod, you will own and deepen strategic partnerships with Japan's largest global agency holding companies and their senior leadership teams. You will shape joint business strategies, identify opportunities to accelerate adoption of The Trade Desk platform across agency networks, and influence long-term commercial growth through executive engagement, cross-functional collaboration, and market leadership.

While this is an individual contributor role, you will be expected to act as a senior leader within the pod—providing mentorship, guidance, and thought leadership to junior team members, helping elevate team performance through influence rather than direct people management.
You will partner closely with Client Services, Marketing, Data Partnerships, Product, and regional leadership to shape go-to-market strategy and deliver exceptional outcomes for our agency partners.

What You'll Do

  • Own and grow strategic relationships with executive stakeholders across major global agency holding companies in Japan.
  • Develop and execute joint business plans that drive platform adoption, revenue growth, and long-term partnership value.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to agency leadership by bringing market insights, industry trends, and strategic recommendations.
  • Partner closely with Client Services and cross-functional teams to ensure seamless execution and maximize client success.
  • Identify and pursue new commercial opportunities, building relationships with prospective clients and influencing internal stakeholders to unlock long-term revenue growth.
  • Lead complex negotiations and strategic initiatives with senior agency decision-makers.
  • Act as a senior mentor within the team by coaching and supporting junior colleagues, sharing best practices, and contributing to pod-wide success.
  • Champion collaboration across global and regional stakeholders to ensure aligned account strategies and consistent execution.
  • Represent The Trade Desk at industry events and executive engagements while strengthening our position in the market.
  • Provide structured feedback from clients and agencies to help inform product strategy and future investments.

Who You Are

  • A proven commercial leader with significant experience in digital advertising, agency partnerships, or enterprise sales.
  • Deep experience partnering with global agency holding companies, with a track record of developing joint business plans, driving executive engagement, and identifying opportunities for mutual growth.
  • Demonstrated success managing and growing relationships with complex, global organizations.
  • Strong track record influencing senior stakeholders and leading strategic commercial conversations.
  • Experienced in coaching, mentoring, or leading teams, even if not currently in a formal people management role.
  • Comfortable operating in highly matrixed environments and driving outcomes through collaboration and influence.
  • Skilled at balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution and account development.
  • Excellent communicator in both Japanese and English, with the executive presence to engage C-level audiences.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and energized by building long-term partnerships that drive meaningful business impact.
