The Role

About Gusto

Gusto is a modern, online people platform that helps small businesses take care of their teams. On top of full-service payroll, Gusto offers health insurance, 401(k)s, expert HR, and team management tools. Today, Gusto offices in Denver, San Francisco, and New York serve more than 400,000 businesses nationwide.

Our mission is to create a world where work empowers a better life, and it starts right here at Gusto. That’s why we’re committed to building a collaborative and inclusive workplace, both physically and virtually. Learn more about our Total Rewards philosophy

About the Role:

The Benefits Transfers team (aka BT) serves customers who currently have an outside broker and want to transition to Gusto being their broker. As a Carrier Specialist on the Benefit Transfers team, the Collector serves as the primary point of contact responsible for gathering essential documents from Carriers, vital for Broker of Record (BoR) processing.

Our Carriers are the primary suppliers of critical information essential to our processes, making the role of the Collector indispensable to the customer experience and significantly influencing cycle time.

Within the benefit transfer process, collection stands out as the lengthiest and most variable stage. Collectors hold substantial influence in driving DIFOT success and enhancing efficiency gains that impact cycle time.

About the Team:

The Benefit Transfers team is passionate about using innovative technology and service to elevate the health benefits experience of small business owners and their employees. Each team member is a true owner and makes a tremendous impact every day. You’ll be joining a team of 13 ICs, 1 Captain and 1 PE. You’ll also have the opportunity to partner cross functionally with a variety of other teams at Gusto, as we collaborate to improve the Benefit Transfer process and product.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Serve as a liaison with carriers and collaborate with their representatives to gather essential information through phone, email, or carrier portals.
  • Effectively manage your time across each of your carrier groups, to ensure the right tasks are prioritized at the right time.
  • Identify and communicate compliance issues, and bring any carrier or product limitations to the team's attention as they arise.
  • Manage benefit operations (transfer health insurance benefits through forms and carrier portals).
  • Help to scale our growing health benefits operations and improve our processes - uncover issues and find innovative ways for us to tackle our work.

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • 1-2 years, with preference for backgrounds in healthcare, insurance carriers, or start-ups.
  • Comfortable with data entry and interacting with external company contacts.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, adept at navigating ambiguity, excellent cross-team communication, and a genuine passion for operations that enhance people's lives.
  • Thrive in a data-focused operational role where numbers inform new projects and initiatives.
  • Exceptional written and verbal skills; enjoy engaging with insurance carriers & customers via phone and email.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently, consistently aiming for team and individual goals.
  • Dedicated to developing efficient processes and driving impactful results.
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.

Our cash compensation range for this role is $20.67/hour to $23.08/hour in Denver. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate location, experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.

Our customers come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it makes our company stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for small businesses, you will find a home at Gusto.
