Summary/Objective:
The Archivist, Production Art is responsible for processing and cataloging visual elements created during the film production process. This includes items such as animation cels and background art, concept art, costume design drawings, production design drawings, and storyboards.
This position is represented by a union.
Essential Functions of the Job:- Arrange and describe, process, and house new and legacy collections.
- Create detailed original catalog records in Axiell Collections.
- Perform metadata clean-up for existing catalog records in Axiell Collections.
- Assess collection materials for conservation treatment.
- Assist with reference services and research requests.
- Coordinate the transfer of collection materials between Graphic Arts and other library departments.
Required Competencies:
- Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) degree from an ALA-accredited program.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional library or archives experience, preferably in a special collections environment.
- Strong knowledge of, and interest in, film history and archival research.
- Familiarity with archival principles, preservation techniques, and condition assessment.
- Practiced in handling fragile materials.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and organized and orderly work habits.
- Flexibility regarding work assignments.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a production-oriented team environment.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to move and transport moderately heavy boxes to and from high shelving.
Work Environment:
- Ability to retrieve materials from cold temperature-controlled vault, as needed.
Required Vaccination: Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required, including any booster vaccinations as applicable. Exception: Medical and religious accommodations approved by the Office of People & Culture.
