Participate in a multi-rotation New Product Introduction/Technology engineering program covering mechanical design, combustion, aero, materials, testing, performance, and customer services to develop gas turbine product knowledge and engineering fundamentals, culminating in placement in an NPI/Tech Engineering department.

Internship supporting global supply chain procurement activities including purchasing execution, basic analysis, supplier communication, inventory and shortage monitoring, and process improvement. Intern completes an individual project, receives mentorship, and presents findings to senior supply chain leaders.

Caterpillar's entry-level engineering rotation places MS/PhD candidates into 2–3, 16–20 week hands-on rotations across turbomachinery disciplines (aerodynamics, performance, heat transfer, combustion, and data science). Responsibilities include aerodynamic and thermal design, CFD and 1D/3D simulations, performance and transient modeling, software development and data-driven modeling, engine test support, and cross-functional integration to advance gas turbine product design and validation.

Participate in the ITS internship program with rotations across software development, QA, customer support, system administration, cybersecurity, analytics, and infrastructure. Work on assigned projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, build technical foundations, and receive mentorship and feedback with the possibility of transition to a full-time role.

Manage purchased material requirements and purchase order execution to ensure material availability. Monitor inventory, shortages, safety stock, and supplier schedules; disposition obsolete inventory; support procurement and vendor management while following demand planning guidelines.

Participate in a multi-rotation gas turbine engineering program across disciplines (mechanical design, combustion, aerodynamics, materials, testing, aftermarket and customer support). Supports turbomachinery supplier engineering under supervision: ensures supplier parts meet specifications, manages ERP/tooling setups, supports supplier selection and development, leads PPAP/first-article inspection planning, conducts RCA and corrective actions, collaborates on NPI/CPPD, and supports repairability and quality improvements.

Interns work on gas compressor product design and development under a mentor. Responsibilities include FEA/CFD simulations, performance analysis, research, design/process support tool development, manufacturing support, component testing, instrumentation, data processing, and cross-team collaboration to improve compressor products.

Internship supporting supplier quality and technical accountability for purchased parts across product lifecycle. Duties include drawing review, PPAP, FMEA, root cause analysis, supplier liaison and site visits, data analysis, tooling coordination, and cross-functional continuous improvement projects using Six Sigma tools.

Entry-level internship supporting Quality & Process Improvement. Analyze operational and quality data, assist root cause and corrective actions, support process mapping and standard work, develop dashboards and presentations, and participate in cross-functional continuous improvement projects using Lean and Six Sigma principles.

Eleven-week engineering internship supporting gas turbine package and system design and related development activities. Interns work on mechanical, controls, systems, software, or display development projects under mentor guidance, receive training, networking, and mentorship, and participate in employee resource groups and events. Onsite full-time; relocation available.

Participate in gas turbine product and development projects under a mentor. Tasks include test performance and data analysis, materials research, engine assembly support, design-change analysis for reliability and manufacturability, and providing manufacturing and design-tool support to improve performance, cost, serviceability, and reliability.

Participate in a four-rotation, six-month engineering development program across systems, software, mechanical design, product maintenance, and certification. Gain product knowledge, hands-on shop experience, customer site exposure, and cross-functional collaboration while preparing for a long-term engineering assignment within Solar Turbines.

Entry-level analyst rotation in Information Technology offering yearly rotations across software development, QA, cybersecurity, infrastructure, analytics, and support. Candidates assist on project work, system administration, customer support, and gain cross-functional exposure. Requires a STEM/CS bachelor's, relocation to San Diego, and onsite work five days/week.

Support sales of turbomachinery for oil and gas by assisting senior engineers and sales: review customer specifications, select and optimize compressor equipment, prepare proposals, and hand off well-defined projects. Training includes systems analysis, compressor selection, performance prediction, and cross-department rotations.

Caterpillar Overhaul Engineer intern will support gas turbine product development through analysis, test performance, data/materials research, assembly support, tooling and process documentation, and design-for-manufacturability tasks. Interns complete a mentor-led project, assist with failure investigations, and collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and safety teams.

Provide technical support and leadership for quality, durability, reliability, and cost of engine components and sub-assemblies. Maintain BOMs, create routing and work instructions, disposition out-of-spec parts, support suppliers, investigate test rejects, and apply Lean Six Sigma to improve production and quality. Collaborate with product and design engineering and support overhaul facilities worldwide.

Support facility sourcing by developing and maintaining supplier roadmaps, conducting market intelligence, assessing supplier capacity and risks, collaborating cross-functionally, and driving continuous improvement in supplier performance, resilience, and cost savings.

Support sales of turbomachinery for oil & gas by reviewing customer specifications, selecting and optimizing compressor equipment, preparing proposals, and coordinating technical/commercial handoffs. Train in systems analysis, compressor performance prediction, and cross-functional processes to enable efficient project execution.

Design turbine and driven equipment system upgrades for industrial gas turbine packages. Create/modify equipment documentation, device lists, and component drawings. Interface with project engineering, management, operations, and field personnel to ensure sales order deliverables meet customer requirements.
