Develop and optimize electricity transmission outage plans from six years ahead through day-ahead operations. Produce secure, cost-effective system configurations for the Control Room, manage transmission constraint costs, reduce system risk, and resolve access conflicts with internal teams and external customers. The role uses AC and DC system analysis tools and includes a structured six-month training program.

Develop and maintain probabilistic gas demand and supply forecasting models using statistical and machine learning techniques. Build data pipelines, automate processes, manage data quality, and analyze complex and geospatial datasets supporting gas, hydrogen, decarbonization, and whole-energy planning. Provide technical leadership, communicate insights to senior stakeholders and regulators, scope data science projects, and mentor colleagues across NESO.

Leads NESO’s enterprise tooling and automation function, defining and implementing a strategic, integrated tooling ecosystem across enterprise systems and the full SDLC. Responsibilities include tooling consolidation, DevSecOps and AI Ops enablement, vendor and license management, certificate oversight, large-scale implementation, stakeholder engagement, and adoption of change. The role manages managers and distributed teams while partnering with engineering, architecture, procurement, finance, and transformation functions.

Manage customer electricity connection projects from initiation through completion, serving as the primary customer contact. Coordinate internal teams, transmission and distribution owners, developers, and other stakeholders while managing contracts, commercial solutions, risks, disputes, regulatory compliance, and process improvements. Apply knowledge of Grid Code, CUSC, STC, BSC, and related governance frameworks to deliver timely, compliant connection services across a customer portfolio.

Lead NESO’s strategy for coordinating GB electricity network planning with European partners. The role manages relationships with European energy stakeholders, Ofgem, DESNZ, transmission owners and interconnector organizations; identifies cross-border opportunities, policy changes, trends and risks; aligns interconnector solutions with strategic planning frameworks; contributes to consultations and policy development; and leads teams through complex technical and strategic decisions supporting decarbonization, security of supply and consumer value.

The role communicates findings to stakeholders, contributes to ministerial briefings and executive reports, and supports internal knowledge sharing.

Lead delivery of the UK demand connections portfolio, aligning operational plans with government priorities (e.g., Clean Power 2030). Manage end-to-end connections lifecycle, DNO engagement, stakeholder relationships (DESNZ, Ofgem, TOs, major customers), risk and contract management, and build a high-performing team while driving connections reform and continuous improvement to accelerate critical demand connections.

Perform gas network analysis and hydraulic simulations to assess current and future transmission system capability across scenarios. Identify issues, develop recommendations, and communicate results to stakeholders to support network planning and Gas System Planner licence obligations.

Develop strategic transmission and distribution network designs to support GB's Net Zero ambitions. Work with network owners and stakeholders to evaluate design options, manage technical planning methodologies, address operational risks, and communicate recommendations through reports, presentations and workshops to deliver strategic network plans.

Develop and analyse future network and operability plans to assess system performance, identify constraints, and support resilient network solutions. Perform power system studies, create designs, liaise with transmission and distribution stakeholders, collaborate across NESO teams, and produce technical reports to inform strategic network planning toward net-zero targets.

Develop strategic transmission and distribution network designs to support GB net-zero targets. Work with network owners and stakeholders to evaluate design options, lead technical planning methodologies, manage operational risks, and communicate recommendations via reports, presentations and workshops. Support delivery of the Centralised Strategic Network Plan and develop practical solutions for connecting large-scale generation including offshore wind.

Lead development and continuous improvement of innovation frameworks, processes and tools across the innovation lifecycle. Ensure governance and regulatory (NIA/SIF) compliance, mobilise projects, capture and feed back learnings, run workshops, engage stakeholders (Legal, Procurement, Data), and manage platform change control to maximise value from NESO’s innovation portfolio and funding.
