Provide direct nursing care in the Emergency Department: assess, document, implement and evaluate care plans, follow infection control, complete certifications, cross-train to outpatient, participate in quality and teamwork activities, and perform physically demanding tasks.

Provides anesthesia management and airway/cardiopulmonary resuscitation for patients during surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures. Administers epidurals per physician order, collaborates with physicians and licensed staff, follows South Dakota scope of practice, is on-site 0700–1500 M–F with 24-hour on-call coverage, practices safe patient handling, and demonstrates leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Six-week program for final-year nursing students providing 160 hours of mentored direct patient care, observation in two specialty areas, and participation in an evidence-based project team. Designed to build clinical confidence, critical thinking, prioritization, and time-management skills in a supportive community hospital setting, with financial assistance.
