Global media and entertainment company Warner Bros. Discovery’s reach in the gaming industry extends to Canada with Warner Bros. Games Montreal. The studio has been around since 2010 and produced the DC Universe-based games Gotham Knights and Batman: Arkham Origins.

Boasting a net revenue of about $7.4 billion in 2023, Electronic Arts is one of the world’s most successful AAA video game developers. Founded in 1982 by former Apple executive Trip Hawkins, the company was a pioneer of the early computer gaming industry. Today, EA is responsible for popular titles like Apex Legends, Sims and FIFA. The California-based company has offices throughout Canada, including in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton and Montreal.

Outside of its New York City headquarters, Rockstar Games operates nine subsidiary studios, one of which is located in Toronto. The video game developer is known for creating open-world games like the Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto franchises. Grand Theft Auto V, the most recent title in the series, has sold around 190 million copies since its release in 2013, making it one of the highest-selling video games of all time. Its much-anticipated sequel, Grand Theft Auto VI, will be released in 2025.

Best known for popular franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, Ubisoft is one of the largest video game publishers in the world. Many of its games are available across platforms including Xbox, PC and PlayStation, as well as smartphones. Although the company is officially headquartered in France, it has a large studio in Quebec, which is involved in several of Ubisoft’s most prominent titles.

Founded by a team of Myspace co-founders and former 20th Century Fox executive Josh Yguado, Jam City predominantly produces free-to-play mobile games. Several of its signature titles incorporate popular characters and storylines from Disney, Warner Bros. and Universal Studios movies and shows, such as Frozen Adventures, Jurassic World Alive and Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery. The company is headquartered in California, and has studios all over the world, including in Montreal and Toronto.

Beenox is a video game developer based in Quebec. The studio is a wholly owned subsidiary of gaming giant Activision, and is perhaps best known for its work on the Call of Duty series — one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time. Beenox has offices in both Quebec City and Montreal.
