Summary: Anthropic is investing $150 million in Claude Corps, a yearlong fellowship placing 1,000 early-career workers at nonprofits. The first cohort of 100 fellows begins October 2026. Applications are due July 17.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has famously predicted that artificial intelligence could wipe out half of entry-level white-collar jobs by 2030 — and there’s some evidence to suggest the early-career job market is already contracting. As a leader in the AI industry, Amodei believes it is his company’s obligation to help young workers leverage this technology for their professional growth.

What is Claude Corps?

Claude Corps is a paid, yearlong fellowship program launched by Anthropic that trains early-career professionals to use AI tools in service of nonprofit organizations. Anthropic has committed $150 million to the initiative, which aims to place 1,000 fellows across more than 400 nonprofits.

“The benefits of transformative AI systems could come at the cost of significant disruption,” Anthropic said in a blog post. “The companies building this technology have a responsibility to make sure the benefits are fully realized and widely shared, and to invest directly in the workers absorbing the change.”

In that spirit, Anthropic recently announced that it is launching Claude Corps, a paid, yearlong fellowship program that will train 1,000 early-career professionals in AI skills to help advance the mission of nonprofit organizations that may not be able to afford AI transformation on their own. The program will accept 100 fellows for its first cohort beginning in October 2026. Another 900 fellows will be onboarded for future cohorts in January 2027 and August 2027. Applications for the first cohort are due July 17.

What Is Claude Corps?

Claude Corps is a paid, yearlong fellowship program that aims to train 1,000 early-career professionals with artificial intelligence tools to further the mission of more than 400 nonprofit organizations. Fellows might use AI to summarize inspection reports for a housing nonprofit, route calls for a legal aid clinic or help a workforce development organization identify training programs for unemployed workers.

Anthropic will provide the funding for the fellows’ salary, benefits and computing resources. CodePath, a technical education nonprofit, will lead the programming and act as the employer of record for participants. And Social Finance, a nonprofit investment advisor, will measure and evaluate the program with the goal of building a “longer-term financial vehicle” that’ll allow the program to scale in the future, according to Anthropic.

What Fellows Can Expect From the Program

During the first week of the fellowship, fellows will attend base camp in San Francisco, with all travel and accommodations arranged and funded. There, they’ll be trained on how to use Anthropic’s Claude models and chatbot in nonprofit settings, as well as how to work with teams at the host organization.

Then, fellows will begin working full-time, in-person with their nonprofit organization, where their manager will assign them projects to work on. The fellow will receive five hours of training per week from CodePath, and they’ll receive ongoing support from a designated mentor, an Anthropic technical contact and a national cohort of peers.

At the end of the program, the nonprofit may consider offering a full-time job to the fellow. Codepath will support each fellow’s transition at the end of the year.

What Do the Fellows Receive?

Each fellow will earn a salary of $85,000, and they will receive a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental and vision insurance along with a 401(k) retirement plan and paid time off. They will also receive up to $2,500 in Claude API credits to use on approved projects for their nonprofit organization.

What Do the Nonprofits Receive?

Participating nonprofit organizations will receive the support of a full-time employee, with Anthropic covering the worker’s salary, benefits and required computing resources to carry out their role. They will also receive a $10,000 grant to assist with the implementation of the program. The nonprofits must provide their fellows with a manager, a defined project and access to the tools, data and guidance needed to complete that project.

Who Is Eligible for Claude Corps?

Applicants must be over the age of 18, have less than two years of full-time work experience and be authorized to work in the United States. The program is open to people of all education levels. Applicants don’t need to know how to code, but they should have experience using AI tools, and they should have concrete examples of working on a cause, community or problem they care about.

Fellows will be selected based on their experience with AI, communication skills and motivation to work on societal challenges.
