Nogales Psychological Counseling is seeking a detail-oriented Workers' Compensation Billing Assistant to join our team. This position is ideal for someone with experience in the California workers' compensation system who understands how medical practices operate from evaluation through billing and report submission.

Our billing is self-generated, making workers' compensation knowledge essential. We are looking for someone who can think beyond data entry and understand the complete life cycle of a workers' compensation claim.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Prepare and submit workers' compensation billing accurately and promptly.
  • Generate bills based on completed psychological evaluations, treatment, testing, and reports.
  • Review reports to ensure billing supports services rendered.
  • Verify CPT codes, modifiers, units, dates of service, and required documentation.
  • Monitor aging accounts and follow up on unpaid claims.
  • Communicate with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, employers, attorneys, and adjusters regarding billing issues.
  • Research claim denials and implement corrective action.
  • Maintain accurate billing records within the practice management system.
  • Work closely with psychologists and administrative staff to ensure reports and billing are completed accurately.
  • Assist with workers' compensation billing questions and process improvements.
Qualifications

Required

  • Experience working with California Workers' Compensation.
  • Experience in a medical office, psychological practice, or physician billing environment.
  • Understanding of medical reports and how they relate to billing.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience billing for workers' compensation medical practices.
  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding.
  • Experience with psychological or medical-legal services.
  • Familiarity with medical billing software and electronic health records.
  • Experience reviewing explanation of benefits (EOBs) and resolving billing issues.
