Vice President of Accounting & Finance
Indianapolis, IN

Jack Laurie Group is looking for a Vice President of Accounting & Finance to lead and strengthen the accounting and financial operations of a growing construction and specialty contracting company.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands construction accounting from the ground up—not someone who only wants to review reports from a distance.

We’re looking for a leader who wants to be in the trenches with the team… helping solve problems, improving processes, supporting operations, and building a highly accountable accounting and finance department that drives the business forward.

You’ll report directly to executive leadership and play a major role in the day-to-day financial health, operational accountability, and long-term growth of the company.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the Accounting and Finance department across multiple divisions and business units
• Manage and develop a growing accounting team while creating a culture of accountability, urgency, and accuracy
• Own all core accounting operations including:
• Month-end close
• Financial reporting
• Accounts Payable
• Accounts Receivable
• Payroll oversight
• Cash flow management
• General Ledger management
• Construction billing and revenue recognition
• Drive accurate job costing and WIP reporting across active construction projects
• Work directly with Project Managers, Operations Leaders, Purchasing, and Estimating teams to ensure financial accountability throughout the lifecycle of projects
• Analyze labor costs, project profitability, committed costs, and margin performance
• Improve internal accounting processes, systems, and controls while helping scale the company for future growth
• Create and maintain simple, actionable financial scorecards and KPIs for leadership teams
• Assist leadership with forecasting, budgeting, strategic planning, and operational decision-making
• Support audits, tax coordination, banking relationships, and financial compliance requirements
• Help build a finance and accounting function that supports operations instead of slowing them down

What We’re Looking For

• Strong background in construction accounting and operational finance is required
• Experience working within commercial construction, specialty contracting, flooring, interiors, or project-based environments
• Previous experience as a Controller, Director of Accounting, Director of Finance, VP of Finance, or similar leadership role
• Deep understanding of:
• Construction accounting
• Job costing
• WIP schedules
• Percentage of completion accounting
• Change orders and project billing
• Retainage
• Cash flow management in construction operations
• Experience leading larger accounting or finance teams in fast-paced environments
• Ability to work cross-functionally with Operations, Purchasing, Estimating, and Project Management teams
• Strong leadership presence with the ability to hold people accountable while building relationships
• Comfortable operating in a hands-on environment where no task is beneath leadership
• CPA or public accounting background is a plus, but not required

What Sets You Apart

• You understand the realities of construction operations and project-based accounting
• You’re willing to roll your sleeves up and work alongside the team
• You focus on solving problems and improving processes—not protecting titles
• You can lead a larger team while still staying connected to the day-to-day operations
• You know how to turn accounting data into real operational insight
• You communicate clearly and can work effectively with both field and executive leadership

Compensation

• Highly competitive compensation package based on experience, leadership background, and construction industry expertise
• Performance-based bonus opportunity
• Compensation is flexible and open to negotiation for the right candidate
• Strong upside opportunity tied directly to operational improvement, financial performance, and company growth

Why Join Jack Laurie Group

• Direct access to executive leadership and ownership
• Opportunity to help build and improve a growing accounting and finance operation
• High-impact role with visibility across the entire organization
• Ability to influence both financial strategy and operational execution
• Team-oriented culture that values accountability, urgency, hard work, and results
• Opportunity to create long-term impact within a growing construction organization

Skills Required

  • Strong background in construction accounting and operational finance
  • Experience in commercial construction or specialty contracting
  • Previous experience in controller or finance leadership role
  • Deep understanding of construction accounting and job costing
  • Experience leading larger accounting teams in fast-paced environments
