Position Summary

The Underwriting Technical Assistant is responsible for the binding process of insurance policies, ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines and regulatory standards. The role includes inputting necessary information into underwriting applications for accurate policy rating, documentation, and issuance. They act as a liaison between underwriters and brokers, responding to inquiries, collecting information for quoting, and providing revised quotes. They also serve as backup for underwriters and underwriting assistants during their absence.

What will your job entail?

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the binding of insurance policies, ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines, carrier requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Review and process underwriting applications, gathering and entering information necessary to accurately rate, document, and issue policies.
  • Support new business submissions by preparing accounts for marketing and assisting Binding Underwriters with carrier placement activities.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for insurance agents and brokers, responding to inquiries, obtaining required underwriting information, and providing revised quotes as requested.
  • Manage a high volume of submissions, policy transactions, endorsements, and service requests while maintaining quality and turnaround expectations.
  • Process policy endorsements, including coverage changes, limit adjustments, and policy modifications, ensuring timely and accurate implementation.
  • Monitor and track cancellations, non-renewals, and renewal solicitations.
  • Maintain organized and accurate records of policy transactions, endorsements, correspondence, and client information.
  • Communicate policy terms, requirements, and underwriting requests to agents and brokers while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Provide operational support to underwriters and underwriting assistants to ensure continuity of service during absences or periods of increased workload.
  • Prepare reports related to binding activity, performance metrics, and compliance initiatives to support business objectives and process improvements.
What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Business Operations, Sales, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 1 year of insurance industry experience, underwriting support experience, or experience in a related role.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-volume environment while managing multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with a passion for providing outstanding service to insurance agents, brokers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

The target hourly rate range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00 per hour.

The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
