The Role

As Underwriting Operations Manager in our Underwriting & Services Centre (UWC), you will shape how Commercial Lines underwriting is executed across segments, lines of business and industries. You will lead the implementation of P&C underwriting processes and best practices in alignment with CEMENA and COG, acting as a key change leader and ensuring strong governance, consistency and control.

You will partner closely with Operations leadership, regional line leaders, Product Managers and the Broker Management team to evolve the operating model, support new products and deals, and drive profitable, sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and enhance underwriting processes within the UWC, ensuring governance, integrity and clear documentation of underwriting rationale.

  • Drive local implementation of P&C underwriting processes and tools (portals/raters, WASP, wording standardisation, limits profile reviews, etc.) and represent underwriting in IT / UAT initiatives.

  • Lead the peer review process, audits and quality controls, using critical thinking, problem-solving and data insights to identify trends and improvement actions.

  • Develop underwriting capabilities through targeted training and coaching in areas such as risk selection, pricing for risk, aligning coverage with risk, contract knowledge, loss analysis and portfolio management.

  • Oversee local underwriting authorities with regional line leaders, monitoring breaches and ensuring remediation.

  • Ensure price monitoring in collaboration with actuaries and Line Leaders, leveraging data analytics and loss analysis to optimise performance.

  • Work closely with distribution partners and internal stakeholders to deliver premium service, identify cross-sell and opportunity management levers, and support complex negotiations and deal structures.

  • Help build a Lean, continuous-improvement culture, own the Underwriting Centre Playbook, and engage with the Madrid Chubb Academy cohort as a source of ideas and future talent.

Qualifications
  • Degree in technical discipline and 5+ years of insurance experience with a solid Commercial P&C underwriting background.

  • Proven expertise in risk selection, pricing for risk, aligning coverage with risk, contract knowledge, portfolio management and loss analysis.

  • Strong data and technology orientation: able to extract insights from complex data sets and leverage digital tools to enhance underwriting, decision-making and operational efficiency.

  • Excellent relationship-building, sales acumen and negotiation skills, comfortable working with brokers, clients and internal stakeholders, and delivering clear, persuasive business presentations.

  • Demonstrated adaptability, prioritisation and problem-solving skills, able to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic, matrixed environment.

  • A collaborative leader with a “can do” attitude, focused on people development, premium service, continuous improvement and driving change.

  • High level in English, any other European language would be a plus.

If you are passionate about underwriting excellence and want to have a visible impact on how Commercial Lines are underwritten across the region, we would be delighted to meet you.
