The Underwriting & GIO Consultant - Policy and Training will be a member of the team responsible for creating a best in class underwriting and Group Insurance Operations training program with a forward thinking approach to career development and risk assessment in an evolving work environment. In this role, the Underwriter II will assist with the development of policies and procedures that allow the underwriting and Group Insurance Operations teams to operate consistently, with a focus on best practices, efficient workflow, and sound risk acceptance.
Content Creation and Training Delivery
Assists with creating and revising Underwriting and Group Insurance Operations training material. Training material will be focused on (but not limited to):
Providing a thorough understanding of our manual rating approach, including base rates and factors that drive claims cost changes.
Understanding of EIS, OAC, PACS, VUE, DataMart and related core source systems for UW and customer information.
Modifying existing contract training aides and guidelines and/or creating new guidelines.
Modifying existing medical underwriting training aides and guidelines and/or creating new guidelines.
Responsible for delivery of in person training modules. Develop and execute training as needed – including syllabus, schedule, post-training support etc.
Support and participate in the training and change management efforts necessary for UW and Group Insurance Operations to function at a high level during the core systems transformation process.
Assists in the upkeep and maintenance of the training library.
Policy and Procedure Development
Assist in the development and/or revision of UW memorandums, Policy, and Procedure documents, which includes collaboration with partners in Underwriting, Quality Assurance/Audit, Contracts, Claims, Compliance and field partners.
Assists in the upkeep and maintenance of a Policy and Procedure resource library.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Related Experience
Bachelor of Science in Business, Risk Management or other related area
4+ years’ experience in Underwriting, Contracts or related field
Through understanding of manual rating, including base rates and factors that drive claims cost changes.
Understands PACS, DataMart, Vue and other related (or comparable) systems.
Knowledge of both pre-sale and renewal underwriting, and can convey UW concepts clearly and accurately.
Working knowledge of contract issuance, compliance, and new customer implementation procedures.
Possesses some project management acumen, and has a desire to grow and develop this skill set.
Demonstrated attention to detail
Strong organizational skills; able to prioritize work with limited oversight
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Displays basic knowledge of excel, power point and other Microsoft office applications.
