ROLE DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for an experienced UI/UX consultant/specialist to lead the redesign of the user interface and overall user experience philosophy for a niche, multi-user web toolkit currently in active development and production. The tool is widely used by technical specialists and engineers in the oil and gas industry.
Initial engagement: This is a 3–6-monthsexternal consultancy role involving active collaboration and delivery. Based on project impact, scalability, and overall contribution, there is potential for transition to a full-time, on-staff position.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop a clear design story/philosophy that aligns with the tool’s goals and user base.
- Ensure redesigns accommodate technical workflows and terminologies prevalent in oil & gas platforms or any other data driven fields.
- Collaborate closely with clients, product managers, and developers to simplify and enhance the current UI/UX, iterate on design concepts, guiding UI/UX decision-making with clear user-centric insights.
- Audit the existing interface to identify areas for improvement in terms of usability, intuitiveness, and consistency. Conduct detailed, data-informed audits of the current interface to identify usability and consistency gaps and recommend actionable improvements.
- Research UI/UX patterns in similar industry tools to adopt familiar and effective design standards.
- Generate and present creative redesign concepts, clearly articulating rationale and defending decisions with user-centric reasoning.
- Ensure the redesigned interface accommodates technical workflows, terminology, and user habits of oil & gas professionals.
- Drive the creation of low- and high-fidelity mockups, prototypes, and user flows that support decision-making and development.
- Collaborate closely with an Angular Frontend Developer implement agreed interfaces.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven experience in UI/UX design for B2B or technical web applications.
- Strong portfolio showcasing user-centered design projects, ideally in complex domains like engineering, science, or industrial software. Portfolio also must include case studies demonstrating improvements in usability and efficiency for technical, B2B, or industrial applications.
- Ability to work in agile development environments and adjust to evolving requirements.
- Strong skills in Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, or similar design tools.
- Experience conducting user research and usability testing, as well as user research to iteratively enhance design outcomes.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to engage stakeholders and justify design choices
- Optional: Base familiarity with front-end frameworks, particularly Angular, is a plus.
