The Opportunity:
As a Training & Operations Lessons Learned Specialist supporting the SCOPES Program, you will help USSOUTHCOM transform operational observations into lasting improvements across training, doctrine, and operational planning. You will support the Joint Lessons Learned Program by collecting, analyzing, validating, and integrating lessons from exercises, operations, and strategic activities, ensuring insights are translated into actionable recommendations that strengthen Combatant Command readiness, organizational effectiveness, and mission success throughout the Western Hemisphere.
Responsibilities:

  • Support the USSOUTHCOM Joint Lessons Learned Program (JLLP) by collecting, analyzing, validating, and integrating lessons identified from joint exercises, operations, and strategic activities.

  • Conduct operational analysis to identify trends, process improvements, and organizational best practices that enhance Combatant Command readiness and operational effectiveness.

  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate After Action Reviews (AARs), capturing observations and developing recommendations that drive continuous improvement across the Command.

  • Develop and update lessons learned guidance, policies, procedures, exercise documentation, and organizational directives to institutionalize best practices.

  • Coordinate with Joint Staff, Service Components, Combatant Commands, and interagency partners to support lessons learned integration, joint concepts, wargaming, and doctrine development initiatives.

  • Prepare executive-level information papers, decision papers, briefings, and progress updates that support senior leader decision-making and issue resolution.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor on organizational learning, lessons integration, and operational assessments, helping improve USSOUTHCOM's training, planning, and operational processes.

Qualifications:
Required: 

  • Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance.

  • Experience supporting Joint or Service-level operations, training, exercises, lessons learned, operational planning, or organizational assessments.

  • Working knowledge of Joint operations, military staff processes, training management, and operational planning.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, develop recommendations, prepare executive-level products, and brief senior leaders.

  • Strong analytical, writing, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple organizations.

Desired:

  • Experience supporting a Geographic Combatant Command, Joint Staff, Service headquarters, or Joint Training organization.

  • Experience facilitating After Action Reviews (AARs), supporting Joint Lessons Learned Programs, or contributing to doctrine or concept development.

  • Experience supporting wargaming, joint concepts, organizational improvement initiatives, or issue resolution programs.

Pay Range:

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:

$82,100-$172,400
