A rare opportunity to shape trading decisions in a business operating at the intersection of analytics, optimisation and energy markets. This role brings together quantitative thinking, model development and close collaboration with traders and portfolio managers to improve performance, uncover market opportunities and support the optimisation of renewables, batteries and thermal assets across Europe, the UK and Ireland.
The team
Trading Analytics is part of the Short-Term Asset Trading team, responsible for trading our renewables, battery portfolio and thermal plants across continental Europe and UK & Ireland.
We maximise the value of Centrica Energy’s asset portfolio by:
Delivering market, portfolio and performance insights.
Improving trading strategies.
Increasing automation.
Driving the integration of algorithmic trading.
The team plays a central role in the organisation and works closely with the trading team, algo development teams, portfolio management and commercial teams. This role is particularly well suited for people with a broad interest in our activities and commercial mindset.
About the role
This role sits close to the commercial heartbeat of the business, providing analysis that helps translate complex market and operational dynamics into clear decision support. The Trading Analyst will work across data, modelling and trading activity to strengthen performance understanding and support better optimisation outcomes. It is a role for someone who enjoys combining quantitative rigour with commercial relevance in a fast-moving energy environment.
Support the optimisation and trading of a portfolio spanning renewable, battery and thermal assets across continental Europe and the UK & Ireland.
Deliver analysis and decision support to traders and portfolio managers, helping explain performance, identify market opportunities and assess risk.
Develop analytical models and tools that improve trading strategies, asset optimisation and forecasting capabilities.
Explore market and operational data to uncover value drivers, explain outcomes and identify new opportunities for value creation.
Contribute to the continued expansion of automation and algorithmic trading within the Short-Term Asset Trading team.
About You
The ideal candidate combines a structured, analytical mindset with the ability to work hands-on with data and quantitative models. A strong foundation in statistics, optimisation and programming is complemented by a curiosity for understanding energy markets and trading dynamics. Success in the role depends on the ability to translate complex problems into actionable insights while collaborating effectively across teams.
We are looking for someone who has:
A few years of relevant experience from a similar role.
Strong analytical capabilities, with a proven ability to explore data in depth and explain underlying drivers of performance.
Experience translating real-world challenges into mathematical optimisation problems and evaluating solution quality.
Solid understanding of probability, statistical distributions, and experience with back-testing and performance validation of algorithms.
Proficiency in Python development, including practical experience leveraging modern AI-assisted coding tools.
Experience in, or a clear interest in, power markets, renewables or energy systems, combined with strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
