Trade Finance Document Checking Specialist

To excel in this role, you'll need to be a process improvement expert who can analyze complex workflows, identify areas for improvement, and implement effective solutions. You'll work closely with stakeholders to understand their needs, design and implement process changes, and monitor their impact. Your ability to communicate complex ideas simply and influence others will be crucial to your success.
What you do
- Independently check Import & Export documents drawn under LC guided by the operating procedures, guidelines, policies, practices, and standards imposed by the Company/Group.
- Liaise with customers on document discrepancies and provide appropriate advice on rectification and further handling.
- Clarify document discrepancies with the opening / presenting bank and initiates response to the respective opening / presenting bank where required.
- Follow up and attend to acceptances/payments , dishonour of documents and issue rebuttals if necessary.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders for queries and issues, collaborate towards resolution.
- Observe the bank requirements with respect to operational risk, compliance, AML/TBML in the daily course of actions.
- Perform transaction recording into appropriate systems.
Who you are
- At least 3 years of experience in document checking
- Highly conversant with general LC practice rules (ie UCP600, ISP98, ISBP and URR725), expert opinions and legal decisions. Candidate who is a Certified Documentary Credit Specialist (CDCS) would be advantageous.
- Familiarity with LCs for the commodities trade (energy, hard and soft commodities) would be advantageous.
- Strong understanding and working knowledge of various SWIFT message types.
- Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as a high level of discretion and integrity.
- Meticulous, quality and service oriented, with the ability to perform critical evaluation and provide effective solutions.
- Resourceful and able to work effectively under pressure as an individual as well as in a team.
