Job Summary
The Tool Designer is responsible for designing and detailing tooling, fixturing, and gauges to support manufacturing processes. This role collaborates closely with engineering and production teams to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and user-friendly tooling solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and develop tooling, fixtures, and gauges to meet manufacturing requirements
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering, Quality team members, Production team members and leadership to support process development and tooling needs
- Work with the product design team to address manufacturability concerns and improve product designs (DFM, Design for Manufacturing)
- Create designs that optimize cost efficiency while ensuring ease of use for shop floor operators
- Research, evaluate, and procure tooling from external vendors as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation and records for tools, fixtures, and related systems
- Prepare and present project progress reports and presentations to management
- Prepare detailed documentation, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), operating procedures, and design revisions
- Perform light duty assembly tasks related to the build, troubleshooting & repair of production tooling
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles in tooling design and development
- Utilize shop equipment safely and effectively to support tooling build, troubleshooting, and validation activities
- Manage tooling design projects from concept through completion with minimal oversight
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in tool design or a related role
- Proficiency in CAD software

- Experience with fixture design for automation
- CMM experience
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Functional knowledge of Geometric design & Tolerancing (GD&T)
Pay Range:
$51,400.00 - $79,200.00The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
