The Opportunity

This position offers a unique opportunity to work within USAA's Unified Command Center as part of the Threat Intelligence Team. You will engage with threat monitoring and reporting groups both inside and outside of USAA, utilizing a range of technologies and data feeds to conduct in-depth analysis, develop threat intelligence products, and deliver essential reporting to USAA's senior executives and the Board.

The Threat Intelligence Analyst I is responsible for conducting threat research and analysis and developing strategic intelligence insights. This role will lead investigations into threat actors and campaigns, translate threat information into actionable intelligence that informs strategic security decisions, and actively contribute to the overall maturity and effectiveness of the Threat Intelligence program.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to bein the office 4 days per week. This position is based in : San Antonio, TX. Relocation assistance is not available for this position

What you'll do:

  • Assess and evaluate threat intelligence from multiple sources, including open-source intelligence (OSINT), commercial threat feeds, government reporting, and internal security data, to identify indicators of compromise (IOCs), threat actor tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), and emerging trends.
  • Analyze threat severity and business impact, prioritizing intelligence findings and determining appropriate response recommendations.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive intelligence assessments, (i.e. threat reports, alerts, and briefings), to enterprise risk leaders for operational decisions and risk mitigation strategies across cybersecurity, fraud prevention.
  • Advise internal stakeholders (e.g., Cyber Operations, Incident Response, Fraud Prevention, Risk Management) by providing contextualized threat analysis and recommended courses of action based on evaluated intelligence.
  • Evaluate and interpret threat data within the context of organizational risk, contributing to decision-making related to security posture, incident response prioritization, and business continuity considerations. Lead the preparation and delivery of intelligence briefings to stakeholders and leadership, communicating complex threat information clearly and providing actionable recommendations.
  • Determine appropriate methodologies and analytical approaches for intelligence collection and analysis, contributing to enhancements in threat intelligence frameworks, tools, and reporting standards.
  • Identify and evaluate risks associated with intelligence findings, applying professional judgment to escalate issues that may significantly impact the organization.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

Experiences that will support your success:

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.
  • 4 years experience in cybersecurity threat intelligence, security investigations, or a closely related field within a major law enforcement, intelligence, public, or private sector security organization.
  • Proficiency with open-source intelligence (OSINT) techniques and tools.
  • Working knowledge of investigative techniques and analytical methodologies.
  • Experience preparing and delivering briefings or written reports for managers or business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally; and hold a valid US passport.
  • Must have an active Associate Business Continuity Professional certification or be able to obtain one within 12 months of employment.

  • Demonstrated Expertise in All-Source Intelligence Analysis and Synthesis: Proven ability to independently collect, analyze, and synthesize data from a wide array of sources (including OSINT, commercial feeds, industry advisories, government reports, and internal tools) to identify threats, their intentions, patterns, TTPs, and emerging trends. 

  • Exceptional Written and Verbal Communication for Diverse Audiences: A track record of producing high-quality intelligence reports and briefings tailored for senior leadership to include Board/3 to 4 Star level military commanders. 

  • Proven Capability in Developing and Delivering Actionable Intelligence Products: Experience in collaborating with threat monitoring partners to create and disseminate a range of intelligence products, from tactical alerts and warnings to strategic briefs and situational reports. 

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $93,770.00 - $168,790.00.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

 

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
