AI Automation Engineer – Process Excellence & TransformationCompanyCovetrus is the first tech-enabled veterinary-practice improvement company. Our mission is to drive better financial and clinical outcomes for veterinarians.
At Covetrus, we believe great Quality organizations don't just protect the business—they help it move faster, smarter, and with greater confidence. We're looking for people who are naturally curious, embrace technology, challenge inefficient processes, and enjoy building practical solutions that scale. We value teammates who work hard, work smart, collaborate well, and aren't afraid to rethink how work gets done.
We are looking for a process and systems builder and transformer.
The AI Automation Engineer is responsible for identifying, designing, implementing, and sustaining technology-enabled improvements across the QRA function. This person partners with Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and IT leaders to simplify complex processes, eliminate manual work, and build scalable automation using AI, low-code platforms, workflow tools, dashboards, and integrations.
We are equally interested in exceptional problem solvers from operations, engineering, manufacturing, process excellence, legal operations in heavily regulated environments who learn quickly, think systematically, and enjoy building technology-enabled solutions.
At least 60% of this role is hands-on building and transforming—not simply identifying opportunities. Success is measured by the quality, adoption, and business transformational impact of the solutions you create.
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and sustain technology-enabled solutions that automate and streamline Quality and Regulatory processes.
- Build workflows, AI agents, dashboards, forms, integrations, scripts, and low-code applications using approved enterprise technologies.
- Leverage Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI, Copilot Studio) and other approved AI (Claude) and automation technologies.
- Rapidly prototype solutions, iterate with business partners, and continuously improve based on user feedback.
- Collaborate with IT, Cybersecurity, and enterprise technology teams when more complex integrations or software engineering support is required.
- Own the solutions you build, ensuring they remain reliable, adopted, and continuously improved.
- Partner with Quality and Regulatory Operations process and systems owners/subject matter experts to understand current-state process workflows, pain points, and improvement opportunities.
- Facilitate process mapping and workflow analysis to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, manual work, and compliance risks.
- Develop future-state process designs that improve efficiency while maintaining regulatory compliance and quality standards.
- Prioritize automation and optimization opportunities based on business impact, effort, regulatory considerations, and return on investment.
- Establish and maintain a pipeline of continuous improvement and automation initiatives.
- Measure realized efficiencies, user adoption, productivity improvements, and business impact.
- Drive process improvements across QMS processes including CAPA, Change Control, Document Control, Training, Audits, Supplier Quality, Complaints, Nonconformance, Management Review, and related quality workflows.
- Support optimization and configuration of Quality Management Systems and related digital platforms.
- Develop dashboards and metrics providing visibility into process performance, cycle times, compliance indicators, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure solutions meet data integrity, validation, cybersecurity, and regulatory requirements.
- Serve as the organization's technology, automation, and AI subject matter expert.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and AI capabilities for practical applications within regulated quality processes.
- Establish best practices, standards, and governance for automation across the organization.
- Train and coach team members on new tools, workflows, and automation capabilities.
- Communicate realized benefits including efficiency gains, risk reduction, compliance improvements, and cost savings.
- Bachelor's degree preferred; STEM, Engineering, Information Systems, Operations, Business, or related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience improving business processes, automation, digital transformation, operational excellence, engineering, quality, regulatory, or related disciplines.
- Experience in highly regulated environments.
- Quality experience is preferred but not required.
- Experience building automation using Microsoft Power Platform or comparable workflow and automation technologies.
- Salesforce.com experience preferred.
- Comfortable leveraging AI as part of daily work and excited to evaluate emerging technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to build solutions—not simply recommend improvements.
- Strong systems thinker with excellent analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Curious, self-directed, business-minded, and comfortable challenging existing ways of working.
- Reduction in manual effort across core QMS processes.
- Meaningful adoption of AI-enabled and automated workflows.
- Faster cycle times for investigations, CAPAs, change controls, and document approvals.
- Increased process standardization while maintaining compliance.
- Improved operational visibility through dashboards and analytics.
- Demonstrated productivity gains, measurable business value, and high user adoption.
