Job Description

By applying for the positions listed in this posting, you are expressing your interest in our internships based in Columbus, Ohio, or other areas.

A $1,500/month housing stipend may be provided for those moving more than 45 miles from their home address.

The Information Technology (IT) Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting enterprise technology initiatives while working alongside experienced professionals across AEP's IT organization. Interns collaborate with their manager and team members to contribute to meaningful projects, support business and technology objectives, analyze processes, identify improvement opportunities, and recommend innovative solutions. Through exposure to technology, business, and delivery functions, interns develop foundational skills and experience aligned with a variety of IT career paths while building technical, analytical, and professional capabilities.

Areas of Opportunity Interns may gain experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Data & AI: Support analytics, data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, reporting, and intelligent automation solutions that drive business value.
  • Applications & Business Solutions: Develop and support software applications, digital products, AI-enabled solutions, and data visualization tools using agile delivery practices.
  • Infrastructure & Operations: Support cloud, network, telecommunications, data center, and enterprise technology infrastructure services.
  • Technology Planning & Governance – Support technology strategy, portfolio planning, IT governance, architecture, risk management, and project oversight activities that help align technology investments and delivery with business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Analytics, Business, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated initiative, curiosity, professionalism, and passion for technology and innovation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High School diploma. Must be enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate program at an accredited college/university and completed the Freshman year in a 4-year business administration, computer science, or job-related program with at least a 3.0 Grade Point Average.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

Preferred Qualifications:Course(s) of study including (but not limited to): Computer Science & Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Business, Data Analytics/Data Science, or related technology degree. Sound written and oral communication skills.Ability to work within teams and maintain professional composure in a dynamic work environment that often requires management and completion of multiple tasks.Demonstrate sound judgment and ability to apply logical/critical thought processes when developing solutions.Ability to display a positive business presence with management and external personnel.For Infrastructure & Operations internships, scripting languages, coding skills, Infrastructure technology exposure would be preferred.
