The Role

The Senior Technical Writer - Engineering Documentation is responsible for creating top-tier technical documentation specifically designed for our engineering team, using a Docs-as-Code approach. This role demands a professional with exceptional writing skills, a deep understanding of engineering concepts, and expertise in GitHub. You will produce clear, concise, and technically accurate documentation, implementing and maintaining a Docs-as-Code methodology to integrate seamlessly with the development workflow. Close collaboration with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders is essential to gather necessary information and insights. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of engineering principles and terminology and demonstrate proficiency in using GitHub for version control and documentation management. By excelling in this role, you will ensure our engineering team has access to high-quality, accurate documentation, enhancing communication and efficiency across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Content Management

  • Create, edit, and maintain engineering documentation, including design documents, API documentation, system architecture guides, deployment guides, and technical specifications using a Docs-as-Code approach.
  • Ensure documentation is clear, concise, accurate, and easily understandable for the engineering team and other technical stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain templates, style guides, and other documentation resources specific to engineering needs.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to gather information and understand documentation requirements.
  • Participate in engineering meetings and design reviews to stay informed about new features, updates, and changes.

Quality Assurance

  • Review and edit content created by other team members to ensure consistency, clarity, and quality.
  • Implement and adhere to documentation standards and best practices.

Mentoring and Coaching

  • Mentor and coach engineering team members on best practices for technical documentation.
  • Provide guidance on using documentation tools, writing techniques, and documentation standards.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive environment for knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Project Management

  • Manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality content.
  • Track documentation progress and report on project status to relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical writing, preferably in the cloud technology or software engineering industry.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Strong understanding of engineering concepts and cloud technologies, with the ability to explain them clearly and concisely.
  • Experience with Docs-as-Code methodologies and tools, including Markdown, GitHub, and version control systems.
  • Proficiency with Git for version control.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

Preferred

  • Experience with API documentation and developer-focused content.
  • Knowledge of software development methodologies and practices.
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum development processes.
  • Experience with usability testing and user experience (UX) principles.

Salary Range

$104,091.56 - $130,114.45 USD (Salary)

  • Please note that the salary information provided herein is base pay only (gross); it does not include other forms of compensation which may or may not apply to this specific position, namely, performance-based bonuses, benefits-related payments, or other general incentives - none of which are guaranteed, may be subject to specific eligibility requirements, and are wholly within the discretion of Astreya to remit.
  • Further, the salary information noted above is a range that consists of a minimum and maximum rate of pay for this specific position. Where an applicant or employee is placed on this range will depend and be contingent on objective, documented work-related considerations like education, experience, certifications, licenses, preferred qualifications, among other factors.
