The Role

Your Role

We are looking for a talented and versatile Product Owner who will be responsible for aligning our overall vision and strategy of web-based deliverables for one of our proprietary applications teams.  This role includes being accountable for the strategy, roadmap, and backlog of our team’s web-based products and reporting to the product team director, as well as playing liaison to the Client Relationship managers who are responsible for client deliverables.

What You Will Do

The Product Owner is accountable for maximizing the value of our Gensler proprietary products for our clients, users and the organization with the following expectations:

  • Collaborate with our Product Team to provide unified direction for the product by developing and explicitly communicating product goals
  • Create, clearly communicate and make trade-off decisions to prioritize Product Backlog items
  • Ensure the Product Backlog is transparent, visible and understood
  • Facilitate Backlog Refinement and Sprint Review Ceremonies / Work with Product Owners to drive the definition and refinement of backlogs and roadmaps
  • Prepare client-facing teams with information needed to communicate and support new features or changes to existing functionality
  • Communicate the current status of the Product Backlog, next targets and objectives, likely delivery dates and progress made, during the Sprint Review as well as tracking the total work remaining, creating forecasts and making this information transparent for stakeholders.
  • Continually inspect the process, discover and address major concerns
  • Help identify and remove impediments; Escalate risks and needs, as appropriate
  • Maintain metrics that provide visibility, know how to leverage those metrics to identify opportunities and needs

Requirements

  • Communication (written, verbal, non-verbal). Being a product owner requires working closely with key stakeholders throughout the organization and beyond and must be able to communicate different messages to different people about the product at any given time.
     
  • Organized. Able to organize their own work, see the bigger picture, see where we currently are, what our desired destination is and what our backlog of goals and work is in order to achieve that destination.
     
  • Leadership. Use the product vision, strategy and story-telling to inspire teams and stakeholders, leading and inspiring people towards business results and outcomes.
     
  • Entrepreneurial. Product Owners’ at their best are entrepreneurs, see plenty of opportunities, take responsibility and ownership and make conscious decisions in order to minimize risks and seize opportunities.
     
  • Visionary. Great Product Owners have a clear vision. They know what they want for their customers and users and more importantly, why they want it! They’re focused on the Products’ success and the longer-term vision of the Product.
     
  • Decisive. Product Owners need to be decisive as they need to make lots of choices and trade-off decisions, often including saying ‘no’ to people. They have to ensure they do the most important, most valuable things for the product. Business savvy is important for the agile product owner because they are the decision maker regarding what features the product will have. The agile product owner should understand the market, the customer and the business in order to make sound decisions.

Your Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience working with technical teams
  • At least 2 years’ experience as an Agile Product Owner or Scrum Master
  • Working knowledge of various Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, Scrumban, etc.) with a focus on delivering quality software
  • Understands fundamentals of change management, lean startup/MVP, and iterative development
  • Jira, Confluence, and GitHub experience
  • Experience in creating user stories, managing product backlogs, creating roadmaps, and communicating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Self-motivated, organized, collaborative with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrates leadership ability to coach and mentor the team to reach their highest potential. Excellent team player and team builder
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with diverse personality types
  • Analytical with strong attention to detail
  • Energetic self-starter: a willingness to take the lead in new projects, be viewed as a decision maker and drive projects to a successful outcome

**The base salary range will be estimated between $90k-$120K plus bonuses and benefits and contingent on relevant experience.
