Technical Leader – ST Accessories (Steam Systems) leads the team responsible to develop innovative solutions for technical design & engineering activities of steam turbine accessories steam systems such as LP/IP steam admission, Steam seal/drain/HP exhaust, Vacuum breaker, Forced air cooling, Dehumidification system etc. for HDNU projects of varying complexity both in Inquiry to Order (ITO) & Order to Remittance (OTR) stages. They shall also provide necessary outage support & work on ER/NCR cases with support from experts within the team. Along with strong technical skills, ability to work with cross functional teams, customers & suppliers to execute large & complex combined cycle power projects with long-term business implications, manage complex issues within functional areas of expertise, and contribute to the overall business strategy is a must for this role.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead the team responsible for technical design & engineering activities i.e. prepare design concepts, perform basic system design and equipment engineering for ST accessories steam systems such as LP/IP steam admission, Steam seal/drain/HP exhaust, Vacuum breaker, Forced air cooling, Dehumidification system etc for HDNU projects of varying complexity,
- Leading and mentoring small subset of team members on project execution including Requisition & NPI projects and application of design practices & tools as well support manager for running the weekly scrum and project review meetings with full ownership of the target KPI Bowlers on SQDC including taking responsibility of third party engineers (contractor resource) work done,
- Guiding team members to develop detailed system & hardware design with schematics, device lists (i.e. pipe, valve, instrument, load list & signal exchange list), process design and interface document, component specifications & detailed drawings, engineering calculations & analyses to size system components (such as pipe sizing and pipe design pressures and temperatures determination, simulation of steam seal system etc.) of various ST products such as D650, A650, A200, D600, & D200 steam turbines for combined cycle power plants globally across various heavy duty new unit projects scopes i.e. EO, EEP, TKP & TKSI,
- Guiding team members to carry out all activities related to the purchase of equipment on Built-to-Specs concepts i.e. checking of ordering/functional specifications, checking technical evaluation of vendor bids, evaluating & resolving deviation to ordering specifications, carrying out vendor document review, releasing the information for further internal use, performing technical review, integrating the equipment into the plant by managing as applicable mechanical, electrical and I&C-interfaces,
- Ensure that the design is per applicable rules, regulations codes and standards, respective GE design practice / work instruction, contractual requirement and per good engineering practices especially about environmental aspects and health and safety of site personal, operators, maintenance personnel and third parties,
- Develop technical depth of team members by training, knowledge and experience sharing sessions,
- Guiding team for developing and designing products such Gland steam condenser, steam valves, strainer, blowers, heat exchangers, seal steam heater, HP exhaust system etc. with strict adherence to GE & international standards such as TEMA, PED, ASME etc,.
- Ensure a coordinated approach in all areas with the other engineering disciplines such as Customer Application, Project Engineering, Product Definition, Sourcing, ST flange to flange, Requisition teams and key stakeholders such as customers, suppliers, site personals etc.,
- Participate in risk review meetings, design reviews and design freeze meetings and help develop mitigation plans during the ITO & OTR phase,
- Provide technical guidance, enhance system application catalogues/guidelines to support ITO team for cost & cycle estimates
- Providing proposals for design improvement and cost reduction to improve competitiveness of GE offered equipment & design,
- Develop or strongly support standardization, harmonization and/or reference solutions efforts across businesses, to improve the GE-offering’s competitiveness,
- Execute system systematic process improvements such as standardization, reducing vendor dependencies, specification updates to avoid recurring issues, cost reduction etc.
- Guiding team to prepare and maintain relevant design documents & databases e.g. system design practices, system application guidelines, system descriptions / GEKs, OTR standard documentation / templates, standard work, standard document check-list, GBOM parts / catalogues, AVEVA reference plant max case schematic and device summary etc. based on lessons learned of ongoing projects and site feedback,
- Improve customer responsiveness by keeping project schedule, pro-active follow-up of supplier deviations, pro-active follow-up of field issues, timely close-out of ER/NCR; while feeding closed loop quality database for specific issues,
- Provide site support working closely with PSL to resolve any plant installation, commissioning and operation related issues routed to engineering via ER/NCR cases & other means to timely achieve commercial operation and closing the corrective and containment actions on the affected units
- Ensure on-time RCA closure, interacting openly with customers to get agreement on proposed solution, proper feedback and improvement actions to be implemented within documentation and with suppliers / manufacturers,
- Align with Sourcing & Supplier Quality team to identify new suppliers and be involved for ramp-up, that those understands & follows our specifications & drawings to become reliable business partner,
- Deliver customer focused outcomes by driving on-time, fast, quality deliverables through overall systems leadership and operational rigor,
- Champion LEAN principles and embrace LEAN by continuously challenging and improving internal process.
Required Qualifications
- Mechanical/Thermal engineering degree OR masters from well recognized university
- Minimum 12-15 years of relevant experience in gas based combined cycle OR steam power plants
- Design know-how of Steam Turbine accessories systems such as Steam seal system, Drains, Strainers, Control and Stop valves, Vacuum system, Desuperheating system, Exhaust spray system etc.
- Knowledge of plant operability and heat balance for combined cycle plant
- Know and apply design methods, rules and tools to specify the systems/ components
- Specific Knowledge about the relevant codes and standards like ANSI, ASME, ISO, API, HIS, HEI, PTC etc.
- Knowledge of Interfaces specially on controls systems & electrical interfaces
- Good knowledge of engineering, design and project management tools and methods e.g. GTCC-PLM, AVEVA, Power-Now, Confluence etc.
- Naturally good at collaboration across the teams to achieve broader objective for the business with strong sense of operational rigor & urgency.
