Kemper is seeking a Technical Digital Lead to join our team, focusing on enhancing the digital experience for auto insurance customers through web-based and mobile-first applications. You will provide design and development leadership across multiple teams, working closely with enterprise architecture and business teams to define and execute the digital roadmap. You will be responsible for the technical execution of transformational efforts on our customers' digital journeys. Additional responsibilities include conducting product evaluations, strategic platform planning, and ensuring alignment with our customer value chain leadership. 

Position Responsibilities 

  • Define and develop the strategic roadmap with senior IT and value chain leadership to impact the company’s objectives and results. 
  • Lead the development and execution of a digital strategy for exceptional web-based and mobile-first experiences for auto insurance customers. 
  • Manage teams of external contractors and internal employees to execute large, cross-functional application systems. 
  • Consult with senior stakeholders to identify business and technology needs and optimize the use of information technology. 
  • Ensure smooth IT service delivery by monitoring system performance and recommending process enhancements. 
  • Create processes and standards for system selection, implementation, and support. 
  • Provide technical leadership, direction, guidance, and training as needed. 
  • Participate in Proof-of-Concept work to evaluate platforms and capabilities. 
  • Coordinate system resources and projects with customers, vendors, and other areas to ensure seamless integration and superior user experience. 
  • Implement agile development strategies and MVP approaches to accelerate the delivery of high-quality digital products. 
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities, assignments, and roles. 
  • Communicate and report effectively at the business and IT executive level. 
  • Build consensus among business and technology stakeholders. 
  • Derive SLAs and KPIs for critical business systems and functionality. 
  • Lead teams to triage and resolve system outages and prevent future occurrences. 

Position Qualifications 

  • College degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience. 
  • 5+ years of experience in designing, building, and implementing large-scale software solutions in the P&C insurance industry, focusing on mobile-first applications (Commercial Auto and Private Passenger Auto experience a plus). 
  • Proven experience in designing and developing large-scale enterprise applications in technical development, solution architecture, or application architecture roles, focusing on customer-facing digital application development. 
  • Experience in front-end technologies such as Angular, Typescript, HTML, CSS, Web Components preferred. 
  • Experience working with applications in a Cloud environment and SaaS. 
  • Experience with cloud-native solutions such as Lambda, API Gateway, EKS, and cloud data platforms is a plus. 
  • Experience supporting applications/systems with multiple integration points, including external third-party systems through APIs. 
  • Proficiency in Java/Spring Boot. 
  • Experience with Postgres database management is a plus. 
  • Experience with progressive web apps (PWAs) and mobile apps development. 
  • Experience with JWT, OAuth, OpenID, and SAML is a plus. 
  • Experience with mobile development - iOS, Android, React Native. Experience with UI/UX, PWA is a plus. 
  • Experience with Guidewire Digital products is a plus. 
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins is a plus. 
  • Strong presentation, verbal, and written skills. 
  • Experience with APM tools, application performance analysis, and tuning. 
  • Experience with Test Driven Development methodology. 
  • Experience executing transformation projects with agile development methodologies and MVP approaches.
