Summary Generated by Built In

SCOR is seeking an experienced Tech Lead / Solution Owner - Retrocession to lead both the technical evolution and the functional understanding of the Retrocession ecosystem, the Group's central back-office platform for reinsurance and retrocession operations.

The role combines strong technical leadership with solution ownership responsibilities, ensuring that architecture, modernization, delivery and operational support remain aligned with Retrocession business processes, functional behaviors, data flows and critical business rules.

As SCOR accelerates the adoption of modern engineering practices, APIs, and data platforms, this leader will assess the legacy retrocession landscape, reverse-engineer functional behaviors, identify modernization opportunities, and steer the transition toward a new, more modular, scalable, and data-centric service architecture.

The position acts as the primary solution and technical reference for the Retrocession squad and its stakeholders, bridging business users, Product Owner, solution analysts, developers, architects and run teams.

Working closely with the Product Owner and Core team lead, this role blends hands-on technical expertise, functional analysis, stakeholder alignment, mentoring and architectural guidance to build sustainable, future-ready retrocession services.

While remaining a hands-on technical leadership role, people management responsibilities for the Retrocession squad may be added over time as the team grows.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Architecture:

  • Act as the technical lead and go-to expert for the Retrocession ecosystem, covering both legacy components and modern integrations.
  • Define and drive the target technical architecture for Retrocession services, promoting a service-oriented, API-first, and data-driven design.
  • Guide the decomposition of legacy retrocession processes into modular, reusable services aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Evaluate and introduce modern technologies (APIs, microservices, data pipelines, cloud-native components) to progressively modernize the retrocession platform.
  • Ensure technical designs balance business continuity, risk, performance, and long-term maintainability.
  • Ensure architecture choices are driven not only by technical constraints, but also by Retrocession functional behaviors, business rules and operational criticality.
  • Develop and maintain a strong end-to-end understanding of Retrocession business processes, operational workflows, data flows and functional behaviors.
  • Act as a solution owner for the Retrocession perimeter, ensuring that technical designs correctly reflect business rules, user needs, controls and operational constraints.
  • Work closely with the Product Owner, business users and solution analysts to clarify requirements, challenge assumptions and translate business expectations into consistent solution designs.
  • Analyze legacy behaviors, screens, batch processes, reports, interfaces and data models to identify the underlying functional logic and critical business rules.
  • Ensure modernization initiatives preserve essential Retrocession behaviors while improving usability, maintainability, scalability and integration capabilities.
  • Contribute to functional documentation, solution mapping, decision records and knowledge transfer to reduce dependency on implicit legacy knowledge.

Legacy System Expertise & Modernization:

  • Maintain and deepen expert-level knowledge of legacy retrocession technology stack, data models, and business logic.
  • Identify technical debt, risks, and modernization opportunities within the legacy retrocession environment.
  • Define and steer migration and refactoring strategies to move critical retrocession capabilities toward a service-oriented data architecture.
  • Ensure knowledge continuity by documenting legacy logic and mentoring the team on both legacy and target technologies.
  • Translate legacy functional behaviors into clear target-state capabilities, APIs, services, data domains and migration priorities.

Team Guidance & Mentoring:

  • Provide technical guidance, design reviews, and mentoring to developers and solution analysts within the Retrocession squad.
  • Support Core team lead in structuring the team's technical practices in collaboration with Chapters (Architecture, Data Engineering, DevOps) and business crews.
  • Foster adoption of engineering best practices: clean architecture, automated testing, CI/CD, and secure coding standards.
  • Coach team members on transitioning from legacy practices toward modern, service-oriented development approaches.
  • May progressively take on formal people management responsibilities (objectives, performance, development plans) for the Retrocession squad, in addition to the technical leadership scope of the role.

Delivery:

  • Work with the Product Owner, business users and solution analysts to translate Retrocession business needs, functional behaviors and operational constraints into robust solution designs, technical specifications and delivery increments.
  • Prototype and validate technical approaches for complex or ambiguous requirements.
  • Ensure overall quality, performance, and reliability of delivered services, from build to run.
  • Provide Level 2/3 technical support and lead root-cause analysis for complex incidents on the Retrocession perimeter.
  • Contribute to test strategy and quality assurance practices for retrocession services.
  • Identify opportunities to improve performance, robustness, and maintainability of existing solutions.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure new solutions are aligned with enterprise architecture principles and data governance standards.

Collaboration & Governance:

  • Act as a technical liaison between the Retrocession squad, Enterprise Architecture, Data Foundation, and other Chapters/SMEs.
  • Contribute to architecture governance forums, ensuring Retrocession solutions align with Group technology and data standards.
  • Report on technical risks, dependencies, and progress to the Team and Product Owner.
  • Participate in reviews and meetings, providing clear updates on technical progress and architecture decisions.

Risk & Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with IT and security policies applicable to critical financial systems.
  • Contribute to the assessment and mitigation of technical risks linked to legacy dependencies.
  • Support audit and control activities related to the Retrocession technology perimeter.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering or solution/technical architecture, including hands-on technical leadership.

  • Proven experience working with legacy enterprise systems and successfully modernizing them toward service-oriented architectures.

  • Experience with reinsurance, retrocession, or financial services platforms strongly preferred.

  • Experience designing and delivering APIs, microservices, and data-oriented integrations.

  • Experience mentoring engineers and driving technical best practices within Agile squads.

  • Experience balancing legacy system constraints with modern architecture and delivery practices.

  • Strong experience acting as a bridge between business and technology teams in complex enterprise environments.
  • Proven ability to understand, document and challenge business processes, functional behaviors and legacy system logic.
  • Experience in solution ownership, functional analysis, domain modelling or business-facing technical leadership.
  • Systems technologies, data models, and business processes

    • Service-oriented architecture (SOA), microservices, and API design (REST, event-driven/messaging patterns)

      • Modern data architecture: data pipelines, data integration, data modeling, and data platforms

      • Cloud platforms and modern engineering practices (CI/CD, containers, automated testing)

      • Knowledge / Experience in Agentic development.

      • Reinsurance / retrocession business processes

      • Enterprise architecture principles and IT security standards for critical financial systems
