Our Corporate Functions are made up of teams that support Expedia Group, including our Global Finance Org., Traveler and Partner Service Platform, Legal Team, Strategy and Corporate Development Team, and People & Places Org.


Expedia Group is seeking a Tax Manager to join our Indirect Tax Operations team in our Bangalore, India office under a hybrid working model. In this role you will hold primary responsibility for U.S. state and local sales and use tax, lodging and hotel tax compliance, and related international indirect tax and withholding tax obligations, while supporting broader global indirect tax initiatives. You will serve as the senior day-to-day presence for the Indirect Tax Operations team in the Bangalore office and partner closely with colleagues across Seattle, London, Sao Paulo and other Expedia Group offices, as well as with Finance, Legal, and external advisors.

This role is ideal for an experienced indirect tax professional who is passionate about driving compliance excellence, leading process improvement and automation, and serving as a senior resource and guide for the broader team. You will bring expertise in U.S. and international indirect tax and play a key role in building the Indirect Tax Operations function in our Bangalore office, with clear room for continued career development.


In this role, you will:


  • In partnership with your management team in Seattle, lead day-to-day indirect tax compliance operations, identifying and documenting compliance processes and driving team accountability for timeliness and accuracy across all applicable U.S. and international indirect tax obligations.
  • Serve as the senior indirect tax operations presence in the Bangalore office, acting as a go-to resource for junior team members, providing practical guidance on day-to-day compliance questions, and fostering a collaborative and professional team environment.
  • Coordinate, prepare, and review U.S. state and local sales and use tax returns, lodging/hotel tax filings, and other international indirect tax compliance obligations, working with external service providers as applicable.
  • Lead onboarding of new compliance jurisdictions in partnership with technology and other cross-functional business teams.
  • Support the controversy and business operations teams through data delivery and reporting.
  • Partner with cross-functional business partners to provide tax operational support for Traveler and Supplier related processes such as tax content issues and information reporting.
  • Apply indirect tax knowledge to proactively identify, review, and implement changes that ensure the accuracy and completeness of Expedia Group’s indirect tax compliance obligations.
  • Manage exemption certificate and related documentation requirements across applicable U.S. and international jurisdictions.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Accounts Payable, Legal, and other business groups to understand the indirect tax impact of business operations and ensure proper indirect tax obligations are identified and addressed.
  • Lead indirect tax project work as required, including business advisory, financial reporting, transactional tax data analysis, and tax research and analysis.
  • Use and help enhance tax technology tools (e.g., AI and agentic capabilities, Alteryx, Power BI/Tableau, Power Automate, SharePoint, ERP/Oracle) to improve data quality, controls, and reporting.
  • Monitor and analyze existing and proposed U.S. state, local, and international indirect tax legislative developments and assess their impact on Expedia Group’s compliance posture.
  • Work as an integral part of the broader tax team, contributing to cross-functional initiatives and supporting a culture of continuous improvement across the global Indirect Tax Operations function.

Education and Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Law, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Chartered Accountant (CA), CPA, or equivalent professional certification preferred.
  • Additional postgraduate qualifications in tax or accounting are a plus.
  • 5–8 years of tax experience in a corporate tax department or public accounting firm.
  • Proven experience managing marketplace platform compliance, including U.S. state and local indirect tax compliance (e.g. sales and use tax, U.S. gross receipts taxes, etc.), and/or equivalent experience in international indirect tax.
  • Experience with U.S. and/or international lodging and hotel taxes are a plus.
  • Experience coordinating with external service providers and cross-functional teams to deliver indirect tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Experience with indirect tax project work, including business advisory, financial reporting, and tax research, including managing financial accounting for indirect taxes (journal entries, account reconciliation reviews, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a senior resource and informal leader for junior colleagues in a team setting, without formal people management responsibility.
  • Experience with tax technology and automation tools is a plus.
  • Experience supporting or managing indirect tax audits or controversy matters is a plus.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with experience managing large data sets; experience with Oracle or other ERP systems.
  • Experience with indirect tax compliance software and/or data analytics tools preferred.
  • Experience leveraging AI, automation, or analytics tools to improve data analysis, documentation drafting, and process efficiency while maintaining appropriate review and controls.
  • Ability to analyze, compare, evaluate, reconcile, and draw clear insights from complex indirect tax data.
  • Excellent researcher and problem-solver who can analyze, compare, evaluate, reconcile, and learn from complex tax data to drive practical, accurate solutions.
