Job Objective

This position is responsible for ensuring that every guest has a positive and memorable experience at any Leal tasting room. Tasting Room Associates must greet all guests promptly and courteously, guiding customers to wines they enjoy; setting up and cleaning up during daily operations and special events; stocking wine and retail merchandise in the tasting room; and accurately performing wine inventory and money handling procedures. Promotes the sale of wine and non-wine products sold in the Tasting Room. Describes wines, winemaking techniques, winery history, and provides general information about our event venues.

Essential Job Functions

  • Execute all opening and closing procedures, including opening the register, setting up the tasting room, opening wine to make sure it tastes correct, breaking down the wine station, closing the register, running a daily report, and cleaning the tasting room.
  • Promptly greet guests in a friendly, warm, and timely manner. Provide the first line of information to the customer by greeting, directing, and answering questions regarding our wines, merchandise, history, and facility.
  • Serve samples of wine, along with appropriate information concerning the wines, to customers in both individual and group settings.
  • Handle routine purchasing transactions, including operating point-of-sale (POS) and accounting for daily sales.
  • Build wine orders
  • Promote and sell our quarterly wine club and upcoming events at any of our properties
  • Work winery events on the property - serve and attend to guests during Léal-sponsored events, on and off-site.
  • Communicate with management regarding any customer account updates, problems, or issues
  • Work varying shifts, including weekends, holidays, and some evenings
  • Ensure wines are adequately stocked in the Retail Area. Stock and price other merchandise.
  • Performing facility housekeeping, to include the Tasting Room, restrooms, patio, and break areas on a daily basis.
  • Provide assistance to guests carrying out purchases, as needed.
  • Attending scheduled training classes and seminars.
  • Willing to work at other venues or on special projects as needed
Qualifications

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Competences

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Have at least one year of related experience to include fulfillment, sales, and/or customer service. Possess basic wine knowledge.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Food Handler Certificate
  • Must possess and maintain a California Responsible Beverage Server Training Certificate
  • Able and willing to greet every guest promptly and in a cheerful and welcoming manner.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills required. Communicate professionally in person and on the phone
  • Must be able to use time tracking software and point-of-sale (POS) system.
  • Must comply with our company dress code. Must maintain a neat, well-groomed appearance.
  • Ability to work under pressure and remain calm
  • Is passionate about selling great wine and providing great service. Ability to sell our products with a personal touch
  • Highly accurate, organized, and detail-oriented, with strong multi-tasking and time management skills
  • Ability to anticipate customer needs and respond appropriately
  • Ability to work in a team environment, work cohesively with co-workers, and perform duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with company policies
  • Varying schedule to include weekends, evenings, holidays, and extended hours as business dictates, as well as flexibility in scheduling to ensure business-staffing needs are met
