Job Description:

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking a skilled Project Manager to oversee and deliver projects that advance organizational priorities and impact across the agency. This role is responsible for managing project scope, timelines, and resources, ensuring successful execution and stakeholder alignment. The ideal candidate will have strong project management experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple initiatives in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

Location: This is an on-site position located at the Nebraska State Office Building in Lincoln, NE

Examples of Work:

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage projects from initiation through completion, ensuring alignment with DHHS objectives.
  • Define project scope, goals, deliverables, and success metrics in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, resource plans, and documentation.
  • Monitor progress against milestones; provide regular status updates and reports to leadership.
  • Identify and manage project risks, issues, and dependencies; maintain RAID logs and escalate as needed.
  • Facilitate meetings with internal teams and external partners; prepare agendas, capture decisions, and track action items.
  • Oversee project budgets and assist with procurement and invoice tracking.
  • Prepare dashboards and reports using tools such as Jira, Confluence, Clarity, or MS Project.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Foster collaboration across divisions and maintain a positive, inclusive team culture.


 

Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in project management, business administration, public administration, business information systems, or a field related to the functions of the hiring agency AND two years of experience as a project manager with the responsibility to oversee the coordination, planning, initiation, and completion of major/long-term projects OR Four years of experience and certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) OR Five years of experience working on medium-to-large projects. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience managing projects, preferably in a government, healthcare, or human services environment.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with grant-funded or cross-agency initiatives.
  • Familiarity with budgeting, procurement, and vendor management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, SDLC) and tools (MS Project, Jira, Confluence).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with health and human services programs (e.g., Medicaid, SNAP, child welfare).
  • Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
