Role Summary/Purpose:
- Systems Engineering manager leads Computed Tomography (CT) Systems Engineers as they develop systems that meet customer requirements for product quality, performance, cost, and speed to market. This role will partner closely with product management, software, hardware and other cross-functional and global teams.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Participate in strategic discussions related to the product and technology strategy as it relates to CT systems engineering in partnership with product management and other senior CT technical and business leadership
- Collaborate with global systems teams to drive ‘Design-For-Platform’ in system designs, consistent engineering processes, engineering efficiency and systems test automation.
- Functional leadership of the team, including recruitment, Technical Career Development (TCD), coaching, training & experiences to ensure a high-performance work culture in the organization
- Manages a small to medium team of senior professionals as well as others. Requires specialized knowledge within the function. Influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influences policy formulation.
- Integrate Quality Management System Processes with effective functional engineering practices (e.g.: Six Sigma, Lean, Technical Design Review Rigor, System modelling, design standards & tools) for improved product quality and reliability.
- Drive continuous improvement of systems, products and processes to enable execution of the technology strategy, optimizing team’s participation in all phases of product development
- Resource assignment and prioritization including headcount and budget management
- Supporting existing products with Manufacturing, Sourcing, Service and Supplier Quality Engineering
- Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may inform work.
- Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.
- Leading change through creative solutions to unstructured product and system design issues. Communicates difficult concepts and may influence others' options on particular topics. May guide others to consider a different point of view.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in computer science, Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical Engineering or Physics
Qualifications/Requirements:
- 15+ years' experience in engineering with emphasis on new product development
- 3+ years of project management experience.
- 3+ years of direct people leadership responsibility.
- Prior experience directly managing Systems Engineering or prior experience leading systems engineering projects.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally.
- Demonstrated supplier and manufacturing interface skills.
- Excellent communication, influencing skills and ability to gain buy-in for initiatives.
- Strong analytical and strong problem-solving skills -communicates in a clear and succinct manner and effectively evaluates information / data to make decisions, anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve, creates actionable strategies and operational plans.
- Change oriented – actively generates process improvements, champions and drives change initiatives, confronts difficult circumstances in creative ways, balances multiple and competing priorities and executes accordingly.
