As part of the Dow Jones Print Business Operations Group, your mission will be to ensure exceptional service for our customers and create great experiences for our employees.
About the Role
You will operate independently, supporting the maintenance and operation of electronic and electromechanical systems that are crucial for producing our publications across multiple corporate locations. This position requires 35 hours per week, with workdays varying based on operational needs. Overtime may be required occasionally. You will also need to perform operational tasks as needed for coverage situations, ensuring a proactive approach to maintaining productivity and quality. Additional duties may be assigned as business needs change. You will be based in LaGrange, GA and report to the Production Manager.
You Will:
- Breakdown Repair Response: Provide immediate responses to equipment breakdowns, coordinating effectively with machinists to resolve issues promptly without compromising safety or equipment integrity.
- Technical Expertise: Troubleshoot and repair electronic and electromechanical components across the pressroom, mailroom, and building equipment, including network systems, PLCs, telephony, and automated remote controls.
- Technology Integration: Support the integration of new technologies into operational processes and serve as a liaison for vendors during the installation, rearrangement, or removal of equipment.
- Technical Guidance: Offer technical assistance, training, and support to staff and customers, ensuring adherence to corporate technology and publication quality standards.
- Documentation and Training: Develop and maintain essential documentation for support staff, including troubleshooting guides and installation instructions, and create training programs to enhance staff capabilities.
- Maintenance and Upgrades: Plan and execute system software, application, and hardware upgrades, as well as routine maintenance of WAN and LAN systems, ensuring reliable operation.
- Project Leadership: Lead projects involving resource analysis and delivery requirements, providing project estimates and overseeing successful implementations.
- Troubleshooting and Support: Respond to complex technical issues escalated by support personnel and oversee trouble resolution activities, coordinating with technical staff, vendors, and carriers.
- Communication: Maintain effective communication with management and other departments, utilizing logs, reports, and emails to ensure timely results for plant maintenance programs. Notify management and clients of network/system troubles through a tiered notification and escalation process.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety and environmental policies, including lockout/tagout procedures, and assist with safety compliance inspections and training.
You Have:
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience supporting technology systems relevant to this role.
- Previous experience in a production environment preferably in cold web offset newspaper printing production environment.
- Distribution/mail packaging experience a plus, working on conveyor lines, with stacking and strapping equipment
- Strong technical knowledge of applicable technology models, including hands-on expertise in middleware integration, networking technologies, and application performance tuning.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting network and data communications systems, with experience using diagnostic hardware and software tools.
- Familiarity with desktop operating systems, applications, and peripherals, and a solid understanding of database theories and data communications systems.
- Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- A technical degree, college curriculum in electrical or mechatronics field of study, or equivalent military training or work experience in a related field is preferred.
- Physical capability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, kneel, bend, stoop, and operate heavy equipment safely.
- Skills in the use of electronic and instrumentation shop instruments (volt ohm multimeter, oscilloscope, clamp on amp meter, soldering iron, regulated power supply etc.) to set equipment to manufacturers specifications, and make appropriate repairs.
- Skills in the use of other small shop equipment (drill press, grinder, etc.) to repair damaged or manufacture retrofit parts for equipment.
- Skills in routine maintenance and repair of PLC systems.
- Utilization of maintenance records (department preventative maintenance logs, equipment logs, etc.) to keep information useful and timely. Updating and maintaining spare parts inventory as parts are used to ensure accuracy.
