Job Description

This position is within the KPFF Planning Team, which is a specialized group of planners within KPFF that focuses on waterborne transportation feasibility planning, maritime decarbonization, sustainability, and land use entitlement projects. Example projects include: PSRC Passenger-Only Ferry Study, WSF System Electrification Plan, and the ZEF-150 Techno-Economic Analysis that compared hydrogen, diesel, and battery-electric propulsion for NYC Ferry routes.

Working in a small team environment under a Senior Project Management team, with support of the larger KPFF community, this role supports planning and sustainability efforts for waterfront, civil, transportation, and bridge projects through research, planning tasks, and project coordination and controls. Examples include feasibility planning for ferry and port electrification, review of the policy considerations on alternative fuels, and development of grant application and public engagement materials.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

Project Contributions 

  • Research and literature review on varying topics
  • Quantitative and qualitative problem-solving; synthesis of findings in coordination with technical experts. 
  • Data collection, analysis, and management including spreadsheet organization and maintenance 
  • Drafting content for reports, memos, presentations, and other documents along with associated quality control review 
  • Coordinate deliverables with engineers, subconsultants, and administrative team 
  • Serve as point-of-contact when project managers are unavailable 
  • Manage project files
  • Schedule project meetings, prepare meeting agendas, record meeting minutes, and maintain action item lists 
  • Coordinate archival of project files and drawings with Records Manager 
  • Grant writing assistance 

Sustainability Planning and Analysis 

  • Aid the development of sustainability strategies, approaches and implementation plans for decarbonization
  • Contribute to feasibility analysis of varying decarbonization pathways or projects, including technical, financial, and operational feasibility components
  • Support greenhouse gas emissions modeling using EPA methodologies

Project Management Support 

  • Communication with clients, subconsultants and internal team members 
  • Contract administration including setting up spreadsheets, scoping materials 
  • Budget tracking and management for review by project manager 
  • Review subconsultant invoices, project invoices, and progress reports 

Marketing 

  • Assist in preparing proposal documentation
  • Create and maintain marketing materials  
  • Potential client and project opportunity research 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in sustainability, planning, environmental studies, or similar discipline 
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Advanced Word and Excel, Project, PowerPoint 
  • Ability to work effectively remotely via Teams and Zoom and in an office setting 
  • Ability to travel to meetings within the greater Madison, WI area 
  • Eager to learn, positive, self-motivated/adaptable, solution oriented and enjoys a challenge 
  • Efficient time management and ability to work independently 
  • Strong verbal and people skills 
  • Excellent writer with ability to communicate planning process and conclusions into written summary reports with clarity
  • Ability to conduct research, compile, and analyze technical data
  • Dependable and professional 
  • Works well with others—a team player, who can have fun! 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with greenhouse gas inventories and/or emissions modeling
  • Experience in Bluebeam, In-design, Adobe
  • Data management and document review experience 

Additional Information

Physical Demands:

  • Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer table.
  •  Occasionally may be required to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
  • Occasionally visiting project locations and performing field inspections which may involve walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain.
  •  Traveling to project sites or client meetings, which may involve driving or flying.

Compensation:

The base salary for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected range for a qualified candidate is $27.00 to $37.00 hourly.
