A Brief Overview
The Supported Education and Employment Specialist (SEES) is part of the INSPIRE
multidisciplinary team and responsible for providing service users support by working closely
with individuals and other team members to ensure comprehensive, coordinated care. The goal
of SEES t is to assist services users in initiating, continuing, or completing their educational and
employment goals, particularly if their academic and career pursuits have been interrupted by
mental health treatment.
SEES provided individualized supports to set goals and work at a pace set by the service users,
with consistent allyship offered throughout their journey toward achieving their goals.
The SEES can assist with organizing schedules, navigating school re-entry, and accessing
appropriate accommodations at educational and employment institutions when needed.
Additionally, the SEES serves as a school liaison, building strong relationships with local schools
and universities to promote smooth integration between students' psychosis treatment and
their educational goals. They collaborate with schools to offer psychoeducation and outreach
related to psychosis.
Employment-related responsibilities include supporting service users in developing career
goals, providing skills training, preparing for employment, assisting with job search, and
promoting job retention by offering on-the-job training and coaching. SEES seek to develop
community partnership, pipeline programs, and employment opportunities through networking
and advocacy.

What you will do

• The SEES will assist with group activities, crisis response services, and linkages to educational
• and vocational resources as well as other community resources. Most of the sessions are
• anticipated to be held in the community, at schools, job sites, however, some may be in the
• office or via telehealth. SEES will participate in weekly clinical team meetings to provide
• updates and support ongoing care coordination. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary
• depending on department or program needs without changing the general nature and scope of
• the job or level of responsibility. Employees may also perform other duties as assigned.
• Engage service users and establish trusting, collaborative relationships to support their
• goals of education and competitive employment in community settings.
• Assist service users in understanding how employment will affect their benefits (e.g., SSI, Medicaid) and refer them to benefits counseling as needed.
• Help service users explore financial benefits that might support their academic goals.
• Continuously assess service users' educational and vocational functioning using background information and work experiences.
• With service users' permission, provide education and support to family members and discuss the service user's preference for disclosing psychiatric status to educational institutions and employers.
• Conduct job development and job search activities tailored to each service users interests and unique strengths, following supported employment principles and procedures.
• Make a targeted number of employer contacts per week to learn about business needs, describe program support, and highlight service users' strengths relevant to available positions.
• Provide individualized follow-up support to assist service users in maintaining their educational status and employment.
• Offer education and support to faculty members and employers, as agreed upon by service users, which may include negotiating academic and job accommodations and providing ongoing follow-up contact.
• Provide outreach services using various methods when service users appear to disengage from services.
• Attend weekly meetings with the INSPIRE treatment team and communicate regularly with team members to coordinate and integrate educational and vocational services into treatment plans.
• Spend the majority of scheduled work hours in the community, meeting service users at locations such as their homes, workplaces, coffee shops, libraries, or family homes, and accompany service users to job applications, GED programs, or college exploration.

Education Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
  •
  IPS model certification and work experience preferred.
  •
  Education and experience equivalent to a minimum of an undergraduate degree in mental health, or social services preferred
• Position Qualifications:
  •
  Experience working with people with psychosis or serious mental illness preferred.
  •
  Experience providing education and employment services, and knowledge of the academic system and employment market in Santa Clara County preferred.
  •
  Early Psychosis program-specific experience preferred.
  •
  Excellent cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  •
  Computer literate including Microsoft Office with the ability to learn new skills.
  •
  Knowledge of a second language preferred.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $34.11 - $43.48 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
