Job Summary
This position analyzes new technology to determine utilization potential within UPS Operations. He/She designs work measurement application tools and training materials to support Industrial Engineering (IE) management in developing operational plans. This position develops standard calculation worksheets to capture work measurements and assist operations/staff management in planning production numbers. He/She conducts master standard data analyses to measure the need to perform work methods for new IE technology and equipment. This position analyzes job set-up observation notes to develop work measurements and work method updates. He/She visits operations/staff locations to observe current work methods and identify areas to optimize productivity. This position creates training materials to assist IE management in developing individual unit-based work measurements.
Responsibilities:
- Posts work methods and measurements on the internal web site to update standard practice manuals.
- Addresses work methods and measurement questions to ensure IE management understands calculation worksheets and system applications.
- Publishes measurement manuals on the internal web site (i.e., iGate) to provide IE management with fair and consistent performance expectations.
- Participates in meetings with management to address work methods and measurement questions.
- Works with Human Resources (HR) to communicate internship candidate requirements and qualifications.
- Conducts departmental orientation for selected interns to ensure their understanding of polices, processes, and work assignments.
- Works with Work Measurement Managers to review work measurement documentation and ensure each work method component is aligned with a measurement.
- Simulates components of operations/staff positions by working the position to understand the process (e.g., package car drivers, etc.) to understand each step in the process.
- Organizes and conducts work measurement training workshops.
Qualifications:
- Develops project management plans and leads the implementation for basic projects of short duration requiring limited coordination and resources; supports initiatives with well-defined project needs and cross-functional roles/responsibilities throughout the project life cycle; manages minimal organizational resistance to cross-functional project demands; employs project management tools and technology (e.g., Microsoft Project, Program Management Group website, etc.) appropriately
- Demonstrates a detailed understanding of processes, procedures, and methods within small package operations; demonstrates a broad knowledge of tools, equipment, and technology used in small package operations; identifies root causes of recurring issues; describes the general structure of small package operations
- Uses the appropriate style, level of detail, grammar, and organization of thought in technical writing; drafts standard specialized or technical documents using templates and job aids; considers the end-user’s perspective when creating technical documents
- Recognizes the basic impact of technology on UPS business, services, and processes; identifies technological barriers in achieving desired objectives; maintains appropriate breadth and depth of technological knowledge for current work assignment
- Describes the general impact of requirements, problems, or inefficiencies on other parts of the operation or processes; conducts basic analyses and identifies issues impacting the accuracy of data analysis
- Identifies common problems with current work designs; specifies requirements for new work designs; modifies or adjusts existing work methods, processes, and flows to resolve operations failures
- Willingness to travel 50-80% of the time
- Bachelor’s Degree or International equivalent
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related discipline - Preferred
- Experience with original analysis - Preferred
- Experience with elemental time studies - Preferred
