Job Responsibilities:
- Carefully organize documents to prepare for trial and/or motion hearings and prepare trial binders and exhibit lists
- Assist in researching and drafting appellate briefs
- Prepare summaries of the claims’ vital statistics and conduct case analysis in furtherance of litigation
- Prepare court lists for hearings and actively assist the handling attorneys in moving cases forward towards settlement/closing
- Request and diary follow up for discovery including requests for interrogatories, requests for production of documents, subpoenas, requests for independent medical evaluations, requests to move the court to compel discovery, and filing motions to dismiss for incomplete discovery.
- Provide additional miscellaneous support to legal department staff and attorneys as required.
- Prepare and send with accuracy legal letters, motions, impleaders, briefs, memorandums, certifications, and affidavits.
- Answer Claim Petitions and Motions through COURTS online.
- Monitor Claims Center activities and document all claims with accuracy within Claim Center.
- Utilize WC Case Law Summary, WestLaw and other legal resources to conduct legal research and Shepardize cases
- Maintain brief bank with current case law
- Circulate newly released court opinions on relevant issues
- Monitor case and publication alerts through Westlaw on important cases, regulations or statutes;
- Use ISO ClaimSearch to investigate claimants’ prior and subsequent accident claims and obtain copies of documents pertaining to same.
- Responds directly to questions, issues and/or refers them to an appropriate staff person in a timely manner.
- Performs other duties related to workers' compensation claims as needed, including incoming calls, out of state assignments, as assigned to them.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Interest in labor, workers’ compensation and/or personal injury law.
- Strong writing, research, and communication skills. Detail-oriented.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
