Amalgamated Sugar Company is hiring Sugar Beet Flumers for our Nampa, Idaho sugar manufacturing facility. These are full-time positions offering competitive wages, outstanding benefits, paid time off and opportunities for advancement in other parts of the factory.
No previous sugar industry experience is required. We provide training for motivated individuals who are dependable, safety-focused, and ready to build a long-term career in industrial manufacturing.
What You'll Do
As a Sugar Beet Flumer, you will support the first step in the sugar making process which is to transport the beets from the truck into the factory through an open trough flume that floats the beets into the factory. The beet flumer is responsible for unloading trucks (that dump into the flume), keeping the flumes cleared and ensuring a consistent flow of beets into the factory.
Responsibilities include:
Communicating with truck drivers
Logging truck information
Unloading trucks
Spading the flumes to remove rocks and debris
House keeping to keep unloading area and beet transport areas clean
Using wash down hoses and shovels to move beets and debris
Walking up and down stairs
- Following company safety policies and operating procedures
- Completing additional duties as assigned
Work Environment
This position works outdoors in all weather conditions in an active industrial manufacturing environment.
Essential Job Functions:
- Work around moving mechanical equipment
- Work outdoors year-round
- Tolerate hot, cold, wet, dusty, and noisy conditions
- Climb stairs and ladders
- Stand and walk for extended periods
- Lift and carry up to 55 pounds
- Work with shovels, water hoses and brooms
- Bend, kneel, squat, stoop, and reach regularly
- Work safely in a 24/7 manufacturing operation
- Work a rotating 12-hour shift schedule
- Read and comprehend written instructions and understand verbal instructions in English.
- Must pass a post-hire Safety Test (in English) with a score of 70% or better.
Schedule
- Rotating 12-hour shifts
- Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Includes weekends and holidays as scheduled
- Days off between rotations
- One full week off each month
Qualifications
Required
- Must be at least 18 years old
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to communicate, read, and understand English
- Reliable transportation to Nampa, Idaho
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays

Compensation & Benefits
Pay
- Sugar Beet Flumer Wage: $22.02 per hour
- Possible advancement to Beet Supply Foreman wage: $28.32
