About our Team
You’ll be at the forefront of transforming how science gets done — putting cutting-edge AI tools and world-class research databases into the hands of faculty, researchers, and university leaders who are driving the world’s most important discoveries. This isn’t a routine sales role. It’s a chance to shape the future of research.

About the Role

As Strategic Engagement Manager, this role is responsible for supporting Elsevier’s Analytical and Data Services strategy across the Americas. The position manages strategic customer engagements, supports key accounts, and helps position Elsevier’s analytical, data, and decision-support products in alignment with customer needs and global portfolio objectives.
The role works closely with Account Managers, Product, R&D, technical specialists, Customer Success, and Analytical and Data Services teams to identify opportunities, develop account strategies, support solution positioning, and coordinate resources across complex customer engagements. It involves building and maintaining relationships with senior decision makers, influencers, and technical stakeholders across universities, research institutions, government agencies, consortia, and other major institutional customers.
Key responsibilities include conducting strategic account analysis, assessing customer needs, monitoring market trends, supporting discovery and qualification, contributing to RFPs and strategic briefings, and helping customers understand how Elsevier’s Analytical and Data Services offerings support research strategy, benchmarking, funding decisions, workflow improvement, and evidence-based decision-making.
The Strategic Engagement Manager also acts as a voice of the customer by sharing market intelligence, adoption patterns, competitive signals, product feedback, technical objections, and unmet needs with internal teams. The role supports business reviews, planning meetings, forecasting, performance reporting, and cross-functional coordination to improve execution, customer satisfaction, and revenue growth.

Responsibilities
  • Building and advancing strategic opportunities across the Americas for Elsevier’s Analytical and Data Services portfolio.
  • Partnering with Account Managers on discovery, qualification, account strategy, solution positioning, proposal development, and long-cycle customer engagement.
  • Leading customer discussions that connect Elsevier’s capabilities to priorities such as research strategy, benchmarking, funding decisions, performance evaluation, workflow improvement, and evidence-based planning.
  • Supporting RFPs, strategic briefings, business reviews, and customer presentations with clear solution narratives.
  • Building relationships with senior decision makers, influencers, technical stakeholders, and internal cross-functional teams.
  • Conducting account analysis, stakeholder mapping, opportunity assessment, and market analysis to identify growth opportunities, risks, and customer needs.
  • Sharing customer and market feedback with Product, R&D, Analytical and Data Services, and leadership teams to inform product direction and go-to-market execution.
  • Preparing forecasts, account updates, performance summaries, and strategic recommendations to support planning and management decision-making.
  • Strengthening cross-functional coordination, improve workflows, and identify post-sale opportunities to expand customer value.
  • Representing Elsevier in strategic customer meetings, executive briefings, conferences, and industry events as needed.
Requirements
  • Experience in strategic account management, data and analytics solutions, research intelligence, SaaS, consulting, or complex institutional sales.
  • Experience with academic, government, research, or large enterprise customers preferred.
  • Able to engage senior technical and non-technical stakeholders, including research leaders, institutional executives, government stakeholders, data teams, and internal leadership.
  • Understanding of analytics, data services, research workflows, institutional decision-making, and customer value creation.
  • Have business judgment, account planning, stakeholder management, and ability to operate independently through complex, long-cycle engagements.
  • Able to make analytical, technical, and commercial concepts clear for the right audience.
  • Experience supporting discovery, solution design, proposals, RFPs, strategic briefings, account reviews, and cross-functional execution.
  • Have exceptional communication, presentation, relationship-building, and analytical skills.
  • Able to balance revenue growth, customer value, operational efficiency, technical feasibility, and portfolio strategy.
