Job Summary
Under general supervision, functions as the healthcare provider on the Support Team Assisted Response (STAR) vehicle. Attends to patients encountered during STAR response. Provides support to the clinical social worker assigned to STAR and transfers clients and or patients when appropriate. Safely operates department vehicles in non-emergency modes. Provides other support functions for the STAR program.
Essential Functions:
- Safely manage STAR vehicles. (25%)
Maintains Defensive Driving Certification.
Maintains control of the vehicle at all times, allowing for the unpredictable responses of other drivers.
Uses appropriate lanes and speed with appropriate cornering and braking techniques.
Uses all equipment in accordance with State and municipal laws and regulations.
Abides by standard traffic laws while driving.
Maintains due safety when parking the vehicle at the scene of an emergency, and the use of emergency equipment while standing at such scenes. - Support Clinicians (25%)
Assist the mental health clinicians on calls
Assist in the mental health assessment and referral process - Provide BLS Care/Assessments (25%)
Initiates BLS procedures in accordance with current standards/protocols
Demonstrates a working knowledge of the Denver Health EMT-Basic Protocols.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of the Paramedic Division’s BLS Policy.
Orders Advanced Life Support resources as patient presentation requires
Evaluates the extent of illness or injury and establishes priorities for care following standing orders, or protocols, or as directed by the base physician via voice communications.
Performs full and appropriate assessments including gathering a complete set of vital signs.
Demonstrates an appreciation for mechanism of injury.
Obtains appropriate history.
Utilizes an appropriate workup site
Cognizant of scene times, taking into consideration safety, proximity to the hospital, and current call volume. - Documentation/Communication (25%)
Follow guidelines for documenting every STAR call
Utilize radios and mobile phones to communicate with dispatch, other crews, and base physicians when necessary
Follow guidelines to enter referrals for services.
Communicate with collaborative partner agencies.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Work Experience:
- 1-3 years EMS experience or patient care required.
Licenses:
- EMTB-EMT Basic - CO - State of Colorado required.
- DLR-Colorado Driver's License Class R - DMV - Department of Motor Vehicles required.
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association required.
