Mid-Senior levelJob Description:
At Cloudera, we empower people to transform complex data into clear and actionable insights. With as much data under management as the hyperscalers, we're the preferred data partner for the top companies in almost every industry. Powered by the relentless innovation of the open source community, Cloudera advances digital transformation for the world’s largest enterprises.
Ready to take cloud innovation to the next level? Join Cloudera’s Anywhere Cloud team and help deliver a true “build your own pipeline, bring your own engine” experience. enabling data and AI workloads to run anywhere, without friction or vendor lock-in.
We take the best of the public cloud- cost efficiency, scalability, elasticity, and agility and extend it to wherever data lives: public clouds, private data centers, and even the edge. Powered by Kubernetes, our hybrid architecture separates compute and storage, giving customers maximum flexibility and optimized infrastructure usage.
The RoleAs a Staff Software Engineer in Test you will architect automation framework and tools that validates a highly distributed, multi-cluster control plane. You will own the test strategy for AWC—validating it both as an application installed via Taikun and as a platform that orchestrates other clusters. You will define how we verify application migrations, API-first contracts, and cross-cluster resource management.
This role is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
As a Staff Software Engineer in Test you will:Architect Test Infrastructure: Design and build a scalable test automation framework capable of handling AWC’s multi-cluster architecture.
API-First Validation: Champion an API-first testing strategy. Since AWC uses a strict API-first design where the UI is a "thin client", you will build comprehensive test suites for public REST APIs
Application Data Migration: Automate end to end user flows for Data application migration involving Spark, Airflow and data warehouse products
Technical Leadership : Act as the prime technical contact for quality within the AWC organization. You will define testing standards, mentor senior engineers (IC2/IC3), and influence design decisions to ensure testability is baked into the architecture from day one.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with the Taikun (Kubernetes) and Foundational Services teams to integrate their components (Cert Manager, DBs, Logging) into the AWC test matrix.
We are excited if you have (Required Experience)
Bsc/Msc in related field or equivalent experience
Experience: 8+ years of professional Software in Test (SDET) or Quality Engineering experience, with a proven track record as a Staff/Lead Engineer (IC4) building large-scale test automation frameworks for distributed systems or cloud-native control planes.
Programming Languages: Expert-level coding proficiency in Go (Golang), Python, or Java to build robust test frameworks, mock services, and custom Kubernetes operators for testing.
Kubernetes Mastery: Deep expertise in testing Kubernetes workloads, validating Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs), managing Helm chart deployments, and interacting with container registries (OCI).
Engine & Data SME: Advanced, hands-on understanding of modern compute/streaming engine internals (Spark, Flink, Kafka) and Lakehouse architectures (Apache Iceberg).
Security & Networking: Strong understanding of modern zero-trust security perimeters, federated identity (OIDC/SAML), and K8s networking (Gateway API, Istio service mesh).
Modern CI/CD: Advanced knowledge of continuous integration workflows (Harness, FluxCD) and experience embedding rigorous system, upgrade, and scale tests into automated deployment pipelines.
