We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join Procore’s Traffic team within Developer Acceleration. In this role, you’ll serve as a technical leader for our traffic and edge networking ecosystem, driving the design and evolution of the API gateways, CDN, and ingress/egress infrastructure that sit in front of nearly every request Procore serves. Your primary goal is to set the technical direction for critical initiatives—including our migration off legacy API gateway technology to modern, cloud-native alternatives—while mentoring engineers across a globally distributed team.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll partner with Engineering Management, Security, and peer Developer Acceleration teams -including Secrets & Observability- to ensure our traffic layer meets the reliability, security, and compliance bar that Procore’s global customer base depends on. Use your deep expertise in API gateways, service mesh, and CDN/edge technologies to deliver resilient, scalable, and elegantly simple traffic infrastructure that serves as the backbone of Procore’s platform.

Join us to be a technical pacesetter on a team that keeps the world's construction software running—Apply today!

This position reports into the Senior Engineering Manager, Traffic and will be based in our Cairo, Egypt office. We’re looking for someone to join us immediately.

What you’ll do:
  • Set the overall technical tone and direction for Traffic initiatives focusing on modern, cloud-native alternatives.

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable ingress/egress infrastructure, including API gateways, CDN/Edge Compute configurations, mTLS, and DNS.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert within the traffic and edge networking domain, championing best practices across tools, processes, and procedures.

  • Partner with Security and compliance-focused teams to ensure traffic infrastructure meets Security & Compliance Controls and other regulatory requirements.

  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows to accelerate delivery, automate routine tasks, and improve code quality across the team.

  • Mentor and develop teammates through code reviews, pairing, and training, actively growing a distributed engineering team across time zones.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across services, platforms, and infrastructure, serving as an escalation point during incidents.

  • Build and maintain comprehensive documentation and runbooks to ensure operational knowledge scales with the team.

What we’re looking for:
  • Experience: 8+ years of combined experience as a Software, Systems, Infrastructure, or Site Reliability Engineer, with a proven track record of technical leadership.

  • Strong experience in one of the following programming languages (Go, Python, Typescript, Ruby)

  • Technical Expertise: Deep experience with API gateway and service mesh technologies (such as Kong and Envoy Proxy/Gateway) and production experience with CDN and edge platforms at scale.

  • Networking Knowledge: Strong understanding of DNS, ingress/egress networking, and cloud networking fundamentals (VPCs, routing, peering).

  • Tooling & Security: Experience with Infrastructure as Code tooling (Terraform, Helm); familiarity with secrets management and Zero Trust patterns (HashiCorp Vault, OIDC) is a plus.

  • AI Literacy: An AI-First Development Mindset with proficiency leveraging AI tools (Claude, LLM Gateways, and autonomous agents) to accelerate the software development lifecycle.

  • Systems Thinking: A systems thinker who finds enjoyment in the complexities of distributed systems, balanced with a pragmatic commitment to shipping working, high-quality code.

  • Communication & Collaboration: Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate ambiguous requirements into clear technical direction and collaborate across time zones.

  • Leadership: Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and up-leveling the technical discourse of a team.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 6+ years of software engineering experience
  • Experience with OpenTelemetry and major observability vendors
  • Proficiency in Ruby on Rails, Go, or Java
