POSITION SUMMARY
Engineering position with growth potential for high-achieving, highly motivated individual. This person will establish and oversee the technical deliverables for a vehicle platform. This includes supporting Key Product Characteristic (KPC) setting for the vehicle, ensuring the architecture supports delivering the KPCs and Vehicle Level Requirements, and supporting the necessary technical tradeoffs through development of the project. The Vehicle Architect also balances the tactical trade-offs and problem solving with the long-term strategic thinking for future platforming and architectures that meet long term business objectives
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interact effectively with product and portfolio planning, customer insights, design engineering, manufacturing, industrial design and senior management to create cohesive and optimized vehicle designs.
- Translate and cascade stakeholder goals into engineering requirements by applying Systems Engineering principles to develop vehicle attribute and subsystem requirements.
- Break down complex information into simple, easy-to-understand requirements and key product characteristics, ensuring clarity and accessibility for all stakeholders.
- Lead the development of vehicle and product concepts, including architecture, structure, and advanced technologies, while working cross-functionally to turn customer insights into innovations.
- Provide clear direction and vision to align team efforts while ensuring technical excellence and innovation.
- Ensure vehicle architectures are designed appropriately balanced to deliver attributes from the most effective domains (mechanical, electromechanical, electrical, software).
- Manage seamless integration and functionality of interfaces within a vehicle.
- Perform and/or facilitate trade studies between vehicle attributes, subsystems, and feature requirements and lead the resolution of cross-functional conflicts throughout the product development process to balance customer requirements and business objectives.
- Take a proactive, leadership role by acting as a customer advocate and technical ‘referee’ for vehicle attributes, packaging, features and design.
- Understand the competitive landscape by understanding customer trends, identifying key competitors, and evaluating their vehicles' features, performance, and pricing.
- Coach and support the adoption of Systems Engineering processes and tools, while serving as a subject matter resource for their evolution across the organization.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of product engineering experience with comprehensive knowledge of all phases of product development.
- High level of competency in multiple subsystems or engineering disciplines and ability to apply knowledge of vehicle attributes, subsystems, and manufacturing processes.
- Passion for engineering and product excellence.
- Proven ability to progress mechanical and electromechanical design solutions for complex systems.
- Experience in the application of systems engineering processes, including requirements creation and maturation at the vehicle level, and proficiency with requirements management tools (e.g., CodeBeamer, DOORS, Jama).
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Able to analyze and interpret data to make informed design decisions and translate customer insights into design innovations.
- Manufacturing and assembly plant experience.
- Proficient in designing and running CAD software (Creo preferred).
- Testing and/or drive evaluation experience (preferred).
Note* Title will be commensurate to years of experience.
The pay range for Minnesota is $116,000 to $153,000 per year. Individual salaries are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography.
