We’re Teya - proud to serve small, local businesses with the financial tools they need to manage, grow, and thrive.
The Role

Hello. We’re Teya.

Teya was founded on a simple belief: local businesses deserve better.

They are the cafés, restaurants, salons, shops and entrepreneurs that bring character to our high streets, create jobs and keep communities moving. Yet for too long, financial services has made life harder for them - with clunky tools, poor support and complexity that gets in the way of running a business.

Teya exists to change that.

We’re building a financial platform for local businesses across Europe - one built around simple tools, thoughtful design and real human support. Our Members rely on us to help them run their business with confidence, and that responsibility shapes the way we work.

We move fast. We care about quality. We stay close to the detail. And we believe great performance and genuine hospitality should go hand in hand.

If you want to build meaningful products, solve real problems and make a genuine difference for local businesses, we’d love to hear from you

Your role

As a Staff Engineer and Tech Lead for the ePOS team at Teya, you’ll play a critical role in shaping our product experience that merchants across Europe rely on every day. You’ll lead a small group of engineers, owning technical delivery while staying close to the code and contributing to coding and architecture when needed.

This role blends deep, hands-on technical work with emerging people leadership. You’ll guide your team through complex engineering challenges, mentor and coach engineers through their growth, and foster a culture of technical excellence. You’ll also partner closely with stakeholders across product, engineering and the wider business, and with a strong mobile-focused wider team, to deliver reliable, high-quality features. On a short time, you’ll have a clear path to grow into a people leader.

We’re looking for someone curious, thoughtful and pragmatic: someone who enjoys being hands-on, is excited by the challenge of building products that work in the real world, and wants to grow towards Engineering Management.

Your Mission

  • Lead a small team of engineers as their technical lead, owning technical delivery end to end

  • Stay hands-on, contributing to coding, code reviews and architecture

  • Mentor and coach engineers on technical and architectural decisions, empowering them to solve complex problems independently

  • Support the growth and development of your team through regular feedback and coaching, building towards a people management role

  • Manage stakeholders across product, engineering and the wider business, aligning priorities and communicating progress and trade-offs clearly

  • Bridge mobile and backend, working closely with the wider backend and mobile focused team to design solutions that work across the stack

  • Drive high standards for clean architecture, reliability, automation and maintainability

  • Contribute to roadmap definition and continuous improvement of development processes

  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding and capacity planning as the team grows

Your Story

  • Strong hands-on software engineering experience, with a track record of leading engineers technically

  • Experience mentoring and coaching engineers

  • Ideally around one year of people management experience, or experience leading a team functionally with a genuine interest in moving into people management

  • Mobile development experience (preferred), with a solid understanding of backend systems

  • Proficiency in Java and/or Kotlin

  • Experience in systems design and making architectural decisions in production environments

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, able to explain technical trade-offs to diverse audiences

  • Comfortable with Agile methodologies and owning delivery in a fast-paced environment

  • A pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset with a bias for action and ownership

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with edge devices and IoT

Teya is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.

We believe that a diverse team leads to better ideas, stronger outcomes, and a more supportive workplace for all.

If you require any reasonable adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process whether for interviews, assessments, or other parts of the application—we encourage you to let us know. We are committed to ensuring that every candidate has a fair and accessible experience with us.

  • Proficiency in Java and/or Kotlin
  • Experience with systems design and architectural decisions in production environments
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Comfort with Agile methodologies and ownership of delivery in a fast-paced environment
