The Nozzle Components and Materials Subject Matter Expert (SME) is responsible for overseeing the general component selection and design and material usage within NGPS’s solid rocket motor (SRM) nozzles. This individual will use their engineering experience to support design trade studies on development programs, material characterization efforts, material obsolescence issues, and support production amongst other tasks. This role involved being the technical owner for general component design and materials used in SRM nozzles. The Components and Materials SME will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining a database of material properties, characterization efforts, test results, etc.
This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Serve as the primary point of contact for questions related to component and material designs for NGPSs SRM nozzle designs
Coordinate material testing across multiple programs ensuring complete material characterization is achieved
Review new design configurations, and proposed design modifications for technical acceptability
Mentor and train nozzle D&A engineers on materials, how to design with them, and concerns related to their usage within SRM nozzles
Provide technical support for production issues related to nozzle materials and their processing
Work with nozzle analysis teams to ensure materials properties and assumptions used in their analyses match what is produced on the shop floor
Hold homeroom meetings with nozzle D&A engineers as needed for the purpose of training and mentoring
Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Structural with 12 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Structural with 10 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 8 years of professional experience.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
Familiarity with common nozzle manufacturing processes with a focus on ensuring built hardware matches design intent and assumptions
Experience with product support in a schedule-critical production environment
Successful execution of material characterization efforts in support of new material development
Demonstrable history of ensuring design intent is aligned with manufacturing realities
Strong written and verbal communications skills with customer presentation experience
Exhibits ownership and initiative of assigned tasks
Background in nozzle analysis, material science, mechanical design, and production support
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree or PhD
Experience within Science and Engineering at Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems focused on supporting NASA
Experience serving in a lead, mentor, or training capacity for a mastered discipline
Demonstrated experience with technical problem solving and involvement in a formal investigation team
Previous exposure to Solid Rocket Motor Nozzles with an emphasis on material selection and component design
Experience of being lead author for a technical report documenting a design, analysis, or test effort

Primary Level Salary Range: $152,900.00 - $229,300.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
