Opportunity Overview:
We are seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to join our Engineering organization and help deliver enterprise scale, high quality and reliable capabilities that power clinical intelligence at Cohere Health. This role is ideal for a technologist who thrives on solving complex engineering problems with an eye towards quality, mentoring junior members of the team and raising engineering standards while contributing to scalable and sustainable platform growth.
As a Sr. Software Engineer you will operate across the software development lifecycle and take ownership of design, build and testing of our applications. You’ll be driving solutions that align with architectural best practices, governance needs and business outcomes. You’ll partner closely with data engineering, architects and product stakeholders to ensure the capabilities are performant, compliant and trustworthy.
What you’ll do:
- Work on fast-paced, autonomous, agile teams to build and enhance a growing software platform
- Provide technical leadership throughout the technical design and sprint process
- Own end-to-end feature releases and product enhancements
- Actively participate in the technical design process, bringing your expertise and analysis to help make data-driven decisions
- Contribute to developing a culture of testing, quality, and attention to detail by supporting industry-leading practices such as writing and maintaining comprehensive test coverage
- Actively participate in ensuring Cohere maintains a disciplined approach to healthcare security
- Mentor junior engineers on your team
- Contribute to technical documentation to facilitate knowledge transfers with the team and department as a whole
What we are looking for:
- You have experience working on software development teams, building and deploying SaaS software
- You are passionate about building quality products and want to own product development end-to-end leading with the right design and development principles
- You have experience with common software development practices such as version control, unit testing, and CI/CD
- You are a team player and are interested in working in a fast-paced startup environment
- You demonstrate an extensive understanding of the functional domain, support cross-team collaborations, and improve the team's ability to deliver.
- You lead new feature delivery, with a focus on non-functional requirements, potentially as a team lead, ensuring reliable estimations for the level of effort and complexity.
- Proactively resolves production issues with clarity while remaining calm under pressure.
Must-haves
- Undergraduate degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in the software development lifecycle
- Experience building applications and services using Java
- Experience in system design and architecting software systems
- Experience leading data modeling and storage design using database technologies (NoSQL, SQL, Object Storage, etc.), at least one required
- Required experience in building software applications and services on cloud platforms, such as AWS.
- Experience in developing containerized applications using Docker or similar technologies is required.
- Hands-on experience with the infrastructure-as-code (like terraform)
- Hands-on in-depth experience building and maintaining services using database technologies (NoSQL, SQL, Object Storage, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with observability platforms (Datadog, ELK, Splunk, AWS Cloudwatch)
- Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR) is a plus, but not required
- Prior experience in healthcare and life sciences is a plus, but is not required
