Position Summary

The Senior Project Scheduler develops and manages project schedules and creates scheduling processes and templates for field use. This role assists project managers with coordinating tasks, monitoring timelines, and schedule planning, and identifies potential delays and facilitates solutions. The Senior Project Scheduler trains Foremen, Superintendents, APMs, and PMs on the use of scheduling forms and processes. This role also gathers data from reporting processes and provides detailed analysis for management review.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the project team and stakeholders in managing schedules for successful project delivery.
  • Work with schedulers from general contractors and design-build teams to monitor schedule risk.
  • Maintain the overall milestone program and ensure milestone definitions are written and agreed upon by stakeholders.
  • Determine reasonable schedule logic and constraints based on discussions with task owners and teams.
  • Evaluate critical and near-critical path activity sequences, and coordinate and facilitate review sessions with stakeholders.
  • Ensure schedule reports and indicators are created and delivered in accordance with the project execution plan.
  • Identify major milestones, critical approvals, and long-lead procurement items.
  • Assess actual progress based on site inspections, and validate contractors' approaches to measuring and reporting against the schedule.
  • Identify schedule changes, gaps, and trends, and proactively work issues with stakeholders.
  • Monitor and report on schedule deliverables.
  • Communicate and present schedule status to stakeholders, and support negative float resolution.
  • Suggest corrective actions and develop recovery plans when delays are anticipated or occur.
  • Understand the integration points across multiple projects and ensure schedules support each other.
  • Prepare and present a consolidated progress report to program and management.
  • Provide what-if schedules to the project team as needed.
  • Document lessons learned throughout the project.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support projects, operations, and the department.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of P6 scheduling experience on medium to large-sized construction projects.
  • Experience on large capital construction projects.
  • Experience developing and integrating multiple project schedules.
  • Certification with AACE, PMI, or CMAA preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Excel and/or database systems.

Skills & Abilities

  • In-depth understanding of construction sequencing and scheduling logic across the project life cycle.
  • Highly articulate, with a clear, analytical approach to problem-solving and strong decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other technology tools used in daily work.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling software and report preparation.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

  • Requires mobility within an office environment.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear. Ability to effectively communicate with others both written and orally, including using the telephone.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • The employee may be required to walk; climb up stairs, reach with hands and arms; and bend.
  • May be required to stoop, kneel, and crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Possess good hearing, normal or corrected.
  • The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and lift and /or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night or weekend shifts, as needed.
  • Must be available to travel to jobsites as needed.
