Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Sr. Principal Systems to provide senior technical leadership in model based systems engineering, requirements development, and architecture definition for a complex aerospace system. This role focuses on using Cameo to capture and manage system requirements, functional and physical architectures, and interfaces across the program lifecycle.

The Sr. Principal Systems Engineer will lead requirements and architecture development in Cameo, ensuring the digital system model is a complete and coherent representation of system requirements, behaviors, and interfaces. This individual will work under consultative direction, independently determining and developing approaches to solutions, and collaborating with chief engineers, IPTs, and specialty disciplines to support design decisions, mission effectiveness, and verification planning.

Responsibilities

• Lead requirements development, decomposition, allocation, and traceability within Cameo, translating customer and stakeholder needs into system, segment, and subsystem requirements.

• Develop and maintain system architectures (operational, functional, and physical) using SysML and MBSE methods, including use case, activity, sequence, block definition, and internal block diagrams.

• Integrate requirements, behaviors, interfaces, and constraints into a cohesive model that supports mission analysis, system design, and verification/validation strategies.

• Establish and apply modeling conventions and guidelines; provide recommendations that directly influence major program and organizational objectives.

• Coordinate architecture and requirements updates with multi disciplinary teams (mission systems, avionics, ground systems, communications, vehicle teams, etc.), capturing cross discipline impacts and dependencies.

• Generate model based views and reports for technical reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.), clearly communicating requirements coverage, interface definition, and design maturity.

• Provide MBSE and Cameo guidance and mentorship to other engineers; help grow modeling capability across the team.

• Collaborate with requirements management and configuration management to baseline the Cameo model and maintain alignment with tools such as DOORS/DOORS Next.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience,

OR Master’s degree in STEM and 6 years of related engineering experience,

OR PhD in STEM and 4 years of related engineering experience.

• US Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance as required by the program.

• Extensive systems engineering experience with emphasis on requirements development, decomposition, and architecture definition for complex systems.

• Hands on experience using Cameo/MagicDraw (or equivalent MBSE tool) for SysML based modeling, including creation and maintenance of system level models.

• Demonstrated ability to critically present technical approaches and findings to customers, engineers, and management from multiple disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting mission planning and ground systems, including definition of operational concepts, workflows, and interfaces between air vehicle and ground mission systems.

• Experience defining and managing air vehicle requirements, including performance, mission, avionics, and integration requirements, and capturing those requirements in an MBSE/Cameo model.

• Experience with mission systems and communications architectures, including data links, networks, and interfaces between onboard systems, ground segments, and external assets.

• Proven application of MBSE/SysML to represent mission threads, mission planning workflows, or end to end operational scenarios that span vehicle, mission systems, and ground systems.

• Hands on experience integrating Cameo models with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS/DOORS Next) and generating traceability/coverage reports.

• Prior role as a systems engineering or MBSE lead on a defense or aerospace program involving air vehicle, mission planning, or communications systems.
