About the Role:
The Community Development (CD) function at the Dallas Fed aims to advance the economic mobility and resilience of low- and moderate-income (LMI) and historically underserved residents and communities in the Eleventh District. Our research efforts, outreach, and targeted initiatives focus on understanding and addressing economic challenges that limit quality job creation, job/career preparation, job access, and financial stability for LMI individuals and in disinvested places.
As the Community Development Senior Advisor, you will conduct, publish, and disseminate applied research on issues that impact low- and moderate-income families and communities. Researchers publish papers using qualitative and quantitative methods. Our publication series can be found here. The research team works closely with the department’s outreach staff and with external stakeholders. This position will also provide analyses to internal stakeholders and the public that are easy to use and understand.
You will:

Conduct independent and collaborative research on topics in key focal areas: housing affordability, asset building, small business development, and workforce development

Partner with Communications team to expand reach and impact.

Keep abreast of theoretical and empirical developments, and of recent relevant economic and policy-relevant trends

Conduct analyses in a manner expected to meet academic peer review standards

Coordinate with and support the Department’s Community Outreach Insights Network (COIN), a platform for gathering and analyzing anecdotal information about economic conditions to inform pre-FOMC discussions

Contribute to strategic thinking around research and engagement objectives and how to leverage the research to inform the work of practitioners and policymakers

Propose topics relevant to improving conditions of low- and moderate-income populations

Attend and present research at briefings and convenings held by the Bank and academic, business, and professional organizations to network, learn, discuss and present current research

Assist Senior Economist in Community Development as needed; contribute to Bank’s integrated policy team briefings as needed

Perform other duties as assigned
You have:

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics or a closely related field, such as public policy, urban studies, statistics, or mathematics

Proficiency in programming languages and statistical software packages
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills
-
Experience with empirical research, data analysis, and publishing research such as papers, articles, blogs, and etc.

This role allows for the employee to work in a hybrid manner with some work conducted onsite at the Federal Reserve work location and some work conducted remotely. Specific schedule details will be discussed during the recruitment process.
